It's funny what you are saying about the pied's feeding difficulty. I bought a pied one month ago he is my first snake ever. He was four months and was only eating live. As a complete amateur when it comes to snakes I have successfully switched him to frozen-thawed and he eats every time he is offered food; he even ate when he was first in blue. I didn't realize he was in blue until right after he ate. He just ate tonight. He is putting on weight like crazy.

i got luck and got a yellowbelly pied for 75 dollars. he doesn't have a lot of white it is through out the whole body but the color blobs big on it .still beautiful. They breed for pied pinstripes but the female retained and produced one baby that was from the previous breeding of pied and yellow belly. they sold him a lot cheaper then his pied pinstripe sibling at 350 each. I have named him Clyde

I wonder why the Pied gene leads to pickiness in the first place. It’s almost like genetic defect or something, because I’ve heard about SO many people having problems. I had a friend keep my pied for awhile since I wasn’t comfortable transitioning it to frozen/thawed myself and it gave him absolute hell. It wouldn’t eat willingly and regurged on a regular basis. Luckily it’s been eating like a champ since I’ve been keeping it...but said friend hasn’t had as much success with his own pied. The poor thing actually died because it wouldn’t eat or keep anything down. Pieds are lucky they’re pretty, because they’re also absolute pains sometimes! 😓

I’m keeping my first ever snake which is a female pastel ball python that I got around 150 grams July 2023 and she’s now 857 grams in early Oct 2024. She is in a 40 gallon enclosure and she’s nearly leaped out of her enclosure for a rat. She never declines a meal. She takes a small rat every 2 weeks as a yearling. I would love to also have a pastel pied or a super pastel pied

Some snakes will crawl around more than others. If they crawl all over and then go on a fast it could be stressed. If it's eating OK it's probably fine.

It's all about how they're living, if they're stressed out an look timid all the time they wont eat.... get a nice dark cave hide, nice substrate, I have mine in a glass tank an my pied rats really good. Infact the first week I fed him he slammed a medium rat an was slithering around climbing his stick an was just fine.... my pied has eaten every week sense I've had him, he was stressed out in a 10 gallon on a wet paper towel with no hide, they said he didnt eat for 4 weeks..... they told me he wouldn't eat for me, he hasn't stopped eating until now sense hes in mating mood....... so ya create good husbandry for your snakes an they will all be happy an eating!
