They are both must-haves! I’m using them both as cornerstones to my projects. I think it depends on what the goal of the project is, but overall, I like DG most. I REALLY like high contrast combos with dark darks and bright colors. When so many people seemed to lose their minds over the issues with DG tests, I became even more of a fan. I want DG in everything!

Great episode. Really respect your researching and delivery. Often feel you are reading my mind. Seemingly hit on the same topics I’m currently thinking of. I’m heavily invested in both genes.. most recent buys were hypo, asphalt het pied and enchi, Mojave triple het VPI, DG, pied. Awesome video Steven. This is a tough one. I can tell you the “buzz” seems to be around Hypo right now and I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to get it into my collection. I think a big advantage it has is it can go to just about anything and come out looking good.

Hypo was also the cheap way to get into double recessives and eventually pair to make triple hets. So many people had het hypo stuff so it was kind of a BOGO deal and the least expensive way to have the most potential for your direction. This is at the time where triple recessives started to gain traction

I have always loved hypo my ghi Mojave ghost is just as vibrant as when he was younger the color has only gotten better it's the most beautiful grey color too. I have 4 hypos and plan to try to make tsk hypo, clown hypo and puzzle hypo all eventually😍

I always loved the frosty appearance that comes with hypo and the tones in brings in, I always thought it had alot more potential .. I also love the how clean and refined desert ghost is along with the solid blacks making great contrast .. I have both in my collection an I think both are amazing and i personally can't pick a favourite 😂

Fascinating view point. I think youre correct in that its perspective. Taking value out of the equation imo dg does almost opposite of what hypo does. One sharpens and cleans up, the other ghosts out. Both have incredible potential and at this point in the hobby with the knowledge we have and testing avail we can all work whatever we prefer. Ill stick with dg😁

I've been researching nuclear farming in agriculture for a few years now, and i believe it should work on ball pythons as well. Basically, plants would be irradiated while they were generating germ cells, which would induce new mutations that farmers found desirable. Now that I'm getting into ball python breeding, i think ill use this method.

My opinion... DG still king for sure!! And I saw the biggest decline in DG over the testing debacle! Anyone that was selling DG and especially hets saw a huge decline in sales and prices dropped dramatically at that time. That is what uncertainty does. Hypo is still amazing and both have their place, they are like PB and j! Go great together! But DG being the PB because it's so much better by the spoonful by itself 😅 Great video 👌

I agree with this 100%. Over saturation had nothing to do with the "fall off the cliff" pricing of DG. The genetic testing "snafu" saying DG wasn't a "true" recessive led to an immediate stop to almost all DG sales. It scared a TON of people away from DG making everyone think you can breed a DG to a DG and potentially not get a DG in the pairing. Also only 1 person has ever called Hypo a "white trash" gene that I know of. I agree that Hypo wasn't worked by many people but there are guys like Mike Cano at Fabled Creations have been making ground breaking Hypo combos for many many years. Both projects are well worth their market pricing. Both projects make the long term goal of having ball pythons retain their brilliant colors throughout their life span possible. But for me DG>Hypo.

I think they're sitting in the throne together. They both have their own special abilities with other morphs. We have both and my I eye typically goes to the Hypos first. But I still love the contrast the DG can bring.

Awesome video topic and great recap of the history of the genes. Personally, I feel Hypo is far superior to DG, although I think the two together work really well. I think the DG A,B,C fiasco hurt DGs popularity a good bit. Also, the rapid rise of Lace is also putting a dent into DG's market share. Personally, I want to work Hypo and Lace together to make what I think will be the best balance of the trio.

BOTH! Ideally when used together. DG was hurt 1st by the name being affiliated with Desert and 2nd by the polymorphism theory. But it is so good, it will not get lost. Ditching it has proven a loss in the past and nothing has changed, so it will be a loss again for those who drop it.

I’ve been team hypo for almost a decade haha I knew it was undervalued and would rise eventually. Do I think it’s overthrown DG? No, I don’t even really think it’s sitting at the table yet. I do think it could though, especially as more hypo DG stuff gets produced. Not every combo works but I think hypo DG is honestly the project with the most potential, it goes with almost everything to make a nicer animal.

Shout out to you Steven for giving Kevin at NERD his "just due" and recognition. I hate the aspect of our hobby that doesn't give props and praise to the OGs of the hobby/industry. Even to this day, Kevin works with morphs and genes that your average ball python breeder doesn't know or recognize, yet when you see them....THEY BLOW YOUR FRIGGIN' MIND!!!!! .....such as Odium.

Has Hypo overthrown DG? In my opinion for now DG is still above hypo. But with kind of this video which shows the difference hypo could up-level the Ball Python combo, the hypo will at least reach the level of DG. And yeah, DG will slightly down just because all people has DG in their collection.
