9:16 if you don’t see “move Origin” here is a workaround. Draw the line that he does but then use the transform tool. Click the small spur gear and select “translate by line” from the drop-down menu. After that click the line you drew. Hope this helps!

For users unfamiliar with the TRANSLATE tool, I made a short video showing how to move the gears into position using translate. here's the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZurmnmPgJmKma8 Thanks Chris & Jim CM for such an awesome video and domenic b for pointing out this solution.

@@nullfox955 It's probably a newer version than he's using. check the video I posted above it shows how to get around that problem. It will also help you move any parts around in the part studio

I've been using 3D Cad since CadKey6 Dos, Alibre, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 etc. Have been messing with Onshape for a while now and keep getting blown away at how good it is, the future in bright for 3D Cad as I've seen a great deal of structured progress with this software. Sick of the expense of SW and the constant bugs, keep up the good work Onshape. BTW, this is one of the best tutorials I have seen by far :)

16:15 You're rotating the blue gear. It has 12 pins and thus 12 holes for the other gear's pins. Which makes a total of 24 sections. 360/24=15.

I tried to follow along and did the best I could. I was able to build both gears, and After figuring out the differences between moving the origin and the new translate option, I was able to move the gear. But after that I couldn't follow along anymore because a lot of the features have been changed or renamed. I got to the copy of the borehole, and couldn't go any further because I couldn't figure out how to do that.

@@ellentao6559 Well yeah, I came back at 10:08 where he uses the "Use project converter" button and as he does, I selected the inner circle of the gears (while modifying sketch 2) with this tool before to draw the line between them, and therefore, I was able to select the little circles to extrude them. It took me a big hour to figure that out, but it took me 2 minutes to resolve it ! Hope it helps :)

@MoMadNU

The Spur Gear tool places the gear on the front face. I don't know how you got it to not be flat. Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning of the video and start all over again vs. trying to fix it.

Great video, but with the latest version I rant into an issue I can't resolve. The “move Origin” has disappeared in v9 and the work around is only partially working, when you use the transform tool the pitch diameter of the moved gear will not move with the moved gear resulting you don't have a the pitch diameter reverence on the moved gear anymore, do you have a solution for this?

Without Mate Features, left click and drag will just move them across their sketch plane. With Mate Features, in this case Revolute, left click drag will rotate them

i think you also made a mistake. When putting the gear ratio ( 14:52 ) you have to put output/input (in your case 48/12 and not 12/48) thats also why you did put 15x2 instead of 15 in the revolute edit later on.

Great tutorial but outdated. Move origin not on gear menu and clocking angle added. Easy enough to figure out. Hope they add more gear types and cam belt pully. So I suggest start with the sketch instead of starting with a gear.
