What is 'special editing'? Is it an app? I'm a bass player who is always interested in isolating bass lines from a mix. Thanks.
@CCKaraoke2 жыл бұрын
@@bcboy123 Spectral Editing is when you view the audio as a kinda wall of colors instead of the usual up-down 'waveform'. So instead of the squiggly line representing the audio, it shows the audio in 'quiet and loud'. For example, all the white/blue colors are quiet sounds and the pink/red colors are loud sounds. Most audio editors like Audacity let you few the audio in 'Spectral mode'. Basically, it allows you to find out of place sounds and mute them out of the mix (or raise the volume of sounds you want to bring up in the mix).

Chris, thank you for posting all of these instructional videos. I've been making music for over 15 years and never feel like the information in my head is valuable enough to share with the world. You help inspire me, and realize what is obvious to you might be obvious to few. Some people have been recently asking me to give them vocal lessons, and I didn't feel qualified until watching hours of your content. You helped me organize all of the things I already knew but didn't know how to translate to other people in a way that makes sense. For example, teaching someone to do the lip buzz warm up. Seemed so obvious to me, but for people that didn't grow up as singers, that's completely new information.

You could also use an iOS device into a Mac with a cable. It’s called an iDAM connection. After you enable the iPhone or iPad in the audio/midi set up window on the Mac you can use the iOS device like an interface/input into your DAW. Any sound coming from the phone can be recorded straight onto a stereo track. Great for ripping mixing references from iTunes/ Apple Music. There’s also no analog conversion. Also, any music apps s like synths or drum ,achines can be recorded right into your DAW too. Then there’s the MaiDI side of it! I won’t get all detailed but you basically can send and receive midi between Machines. I use it all the time.

So, the pros and cons of this. Pro: This is FREAKING AMAZING SOFTWARE! It does an outstanding job! Con: It may have been free at the time of making this video. But when I wanted to see how good a job it would do, I grabbed just any audio file on my system (happened to be Billy Joel's "The Stranger.") Did a great job. So I went hunting for the file I really wanted to use for a project. Went back to the screen and uploaded the file, and got a message saying "Too many requests from your IP address. Please try again later or become a patron." I write a lot of parody stuff. While I'm a musician (okay, a bass player, but it's still close) I can't record everything I want to do. Asking other players to help out is not only time consuming, but also becomes a bit of an unwelcome entity when asking for their time either free or at significantly reduced rate. So, a second song is "too many requests" under the free format. The minimum patron level is $5.00 per month (renews automatically.) While it is an outstanding program, this video should be updated in terms of the process being free, with at least an asterisk by the claim. Not saying it's not worth it, not saying it doesn't work beautifully. Just manage your expectations if you plan to do a ton of your music. It's either not going to be free, or will take you an incredibly long time.

FYI - if you have Cubase Pro, with Spectra Layers you can import an audio file into it and unmix the vocals from within the DAW, saving a step or 2. I tested it, and it has the same effect. Make sure you add SpectraLayers as the track extension, highlight the audio clip, go to the editor window. In the Layer menu, select Unmix vocals and follow the dialog boxes.

Thank you, I was wondering how to quickly play something on my monitors this confirmed that and showed me something I haven't thought of doing. I wasn't sure whether laptop headphone ports were line-level or not and whether that was the same as hi-z. I assume this could be done with one port if using mini-jack to stereo jack for people with one input. For paid software, Izotope RX9 music rebalance is good too - similar results to this but you can kinda split out vocals, bass and drums as well. Hawkeye is a good tool for listening to left, right, sides and mid info too. I would've flunked transcription and analysis without these plugins. We had to analyse High Hopes by Panic at The Disco and I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure that by listening to the info on the sides I was able to hear one of the songwriters singing backing vocals and she wasn't even credited, so weird. I had no idea there were even female backing vocals in it before doing that. Maybe the lead vocals were recorded over her scratch vocals and they forgot to take it out.

This vocal remover sounds much better than others I've heard, so I'll definitely be using this tool for that alone if nothing else. They also have other things on the website, like pitch changing, bpm finding, and key finding, but I'm not sure how accurate the key finder is - I put in a song I know is in F minor, but it said it was in F major (which would be D minor). I even went back to my keyboard and figured out the notes myself to make sure I wasn't just misremembering what key I thought it was in, but it's absolutely in F minor, just like I thought, so I don't know why this tool thinks it's in F major. (for reference, the song I uploaded was this one, in case there's something I'm not realizing about the key: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3zOYqhrh7KHpJY ).
