Great content. A lot of people - even breeding shrimps semiproffesional says that planaria is harmless for the shrimps. I bought plants from invitro for 60 tanks just to be sure that I got planaria free tanks

Finally a good quality Video about planaria ! Great job on the pictures as well ! I just got rid of all my planaria with NoPlanaria even tho it took an extra 3 days and quadruple the dose , they are finally gone 🙏🏼

@CHRIS LUKHAUP thank you for taking the time to edit all of this footage together and do the voice over. I know how much time this takes😅 Your camera is significantly better than mine, no matter how I blow my images up, my planaria are never that clear to see. Of course, my variety that I have (so far) stay significantly smaller and seem to prefer plant matter and rarely go after snail eggs. Their translucent bodies reveal the color of their food as your images demonstrate so nicely. Mine tend to be a paleish grey, white, or green, except when I feed blanched carrots. I didn't know about the slime trails gooing up the pincers/claws/feathered feet of my shrimp, thank you for sharing that piece of information. I've stopped planaria hitchhiking on plants by following the directions for Reverse Respiration in the Aquarium Co-op C.A.R.E Forum. What is the safest way to treat shrimp in QT to prevent planaria hitchhiking on shrimp? I don't worry as much about planaria in tanks with loaches and other fish that eat them, but I would like to keep my shrimp only tanks planaria free, if possible. Traps are helpful to remove them, but treating shrimp safely and reliably in QT would be better. Thank you!!!!

Thanks for the great video, incredibly informative! I've been wondering if shrimp should be quarantined like fish, but knowing now that planaria can live inside a living shrimp's carapace (which is terrifying) I'll be sure to watch and quarantine any new additions very, very carefully.

You must be a mind reader! I've already ordered panacur'c for a breeding tank of mine that I had spotted planaria in. The ones I got in my tank are pale but smaller than yours. I put one under my microscope and it had the eyespots but not much of a triangular head. I look forward to your video on control options.

My first shrimp tank is cycling now, and seeing this makes me so paranoid. When I get my shrimp, should I proactively treat them with No Planaria before putting them in my tank? I'm planning on dipping my plants before putting them in the tank.

I put Corydoras pygmy in my shrimp tank.

They managed to shock my corydoras and guppies. I was originally ignoring the problem until the fish started to swell up from accidentally eating one.

@@HazelGrey. yes, they can kill your shrimp, if you cut it they're can multiply. best way put corydoras in my experience because corydoras not agressive to the shrimp, and will eat the planaria worm

I know this is a year old… but…. How long does it take a planaria to grow to the point you can make out the head shape? I have small white worms on the glass of my shrimp tanks, but they are so small I can not make out a head shape or eye spots. They are about the width of a human hair, maybe a bit thicker and about 4-5 mm long.

That might be detritus worms Not harmful at all just means feed less

If you want to be sure, shine a light on the worm. Planaria will literally run away.

Man those things are huge, I suppose what I have is not it if I have kept an eye on them for 2 months and they looks like tiny round fatties going fast over my aquarium glass. They are nowhere near that size and even if I zoom in with my phone I don’t see the pointy head of doom 😂 only probable cause I found for my few shrimp deaths is cause apparently maintaining 20-40ppm nitrates is not good 😂

Planaria are horrible 😢 i had an outbreak in my tank years ago.
