I swear mine came from one food source. They literally came from the food. I put a little of that food in a Glas and looked after the Glas the next day and yeah they’re alive 😬 I have tanks since I’m 7 years old, I’m 32 now. And at least since I’m 15 I’ve had never worms again. Then I had to buy this food, and totally forgot about worms. Now I think I will throw this food away. It’s in the turtle food, sticks pressed together out of idk worm eggs. There are no worm eggs btw. But literally these worms come from that food. I’m 120 percent sure. You guys probably deal with lots of supplies for the pal st snakes and fish. I guess worms a great money cow for the industry. Tinfoil alarm 🤪

Detritus worms are in my husband's cichlid tank. I have actually heard it is common and they tend to hide in the gravel. They actually eat waste and only multiply if there is too much waste. I had them in my snail tank before I transferred them to a bigger tank. Fish can actually eat the detritus worms. More frequent cleaning and not overfeeding the tank helps eliminate detritus worms. I freaked out when I first saw the worms, but hearing from people, I relaxed. I haven't seen any since I did a full water change and cut back on feeding....

As a kid/teenager I had freshwater fish. Since becoming an adult, I've only kept saltwater. So it's been a while for me. I recently set up a 3 gal planted Betta tank. Not long after I added the newest plant I started seeing detritus worms. I had the exact same reaction as you. I was like Oh NO NO NO. Not in this house... I removed fish and plants, drained tank into large pot and boiled the water. I dumped that then boiled a fresh pot of salt water to pour over gravel. They hate salt water. Pretty sure they don't like it boiling either.. I did this 5 times before rinsing thoroughly and replacing everything. I may have gone overboard. 😂

Lori’s Hartland Help! I have a 55 gallon fish tank and I have had it for 10 years. This is the first time I have seen any wiggly worms. It started with 3 worms I saw when I popped my light on unexpectedly after it had been off for 8 hours. Now every time I turn it on I see more the last time I counted it was 30. It seems like they are increasing exponentially. I almost want to throw the whole tank away and put some plants in it’s place. I have a phobia of worms so the fact that I have cleaned my tank for years without gloves and now there are worms in it has me freaked out. I have watched your video several times and I’m trying to save the fish and the tank because even if I was gonna throw the tank away I still have to clear out a bunch of the water so I’m gonna try to get over this phobia and save the tank. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hello Lori, some worms are actually beneficial and means your tank is cycling well. Though I do understand the worry of having worms or some alien in your tanks, and I don't know all the types of worms in tanks. Having a leopard gecko I get really worried of the possible parasites and mites, so I know how worried and stressful it can be.
@cinezmartinez49495 жыл бұрын
Ammonia and Nitrite bloom caused the worms to come out. They are in every tank, it is part of the echo system. My Aquarium Store suggested me to do a complete gravel wash in tank water, dump out all dirty water. Leave the same tank filter in, yes it probably has worms, badly needed bacteria is in the filter. Cleaned gravel and tank furniture back in tank and add dechlorinated water. Run at least 15 min before adding all life back into tank. Treatment: Bacteria according to the bottle for a week, bring a sample of Tank Water in for testing. Yes the tank will go through cycle with pets inside, gradual and low enough for them to survive. My neon fish is the indicator something is wrong gasping for air at top of tank. I will keep an eye on him. Other than Chlorine Prime and Healthy Bacteria, I choose not to medicate my tank. Water looks so clean no signs of worms, all pets are moving in harmony no stress.

Thank you. I knew i was still sane. I fed my tank and went to work. Came back the next day and i was thinking i must have badly overfed with all the "muck" on the glass... But for some reason i decided to look closer and realized those things were moving. They definitely came had to of come off a plant i put in my tank.
@hannahh.88946 жыл бұрын
I'd probably just ignore them. With things like these worms, or even some pest snails, they tend to "explode" and then die off eventually. When I started one of my tanks I had a bunch of bladder snails that hitchhiked on the plants, and then they just disappeared after a while. Same with planaria. I did end up with trumpet snails, and they never disappeared, but I'm not mad about it. I think they're really cool. I always worry about putting things in a tank to kill things, unless its a necessary medication. I'm always afraid that it'll mess something up, whether it be the plants, the fish, or the cycle. lol
@tristanmelgarejo41975 жыл бұрын
Yea, agreed. The snails will eat the worms either way. I wonder why I don't have a planeria issue in my goldfish tank... HMMMMM. Lol.
@englishtuition3706 жыл бұрын
Planaria and nematodes are not uncommon while you are cycling, basically because they have plenty of food and no predators. For this reason they are common in shrimp tanks too. They normally disappear once you introduce fish.
@mstevens67236 жыл бұрын
Both detrius and planaria are NOT harmful to your fish. They are actually super beneficial and act as clean up crews. They are most likely there most of the time, but if ypu see a lot all of a sudden it usually signals too much leftover waste or poor oxygen. Sooo cycling your tank creates ammonia spikes and nitrate spikes temporarily (which is normal) but ammonia for example means poor oxygen which means the worms may come out of the substrate and then are noticed. A controlled amount (u dont see many) is a good thing. Overcleaning will sometimes re-cycle the tank starting the whole process and worm appearances over again. Hope that helps! Dont stress! also plants are incredibly beneficial in a tank and would not steer away from using them because of worm fears. Good luck!
@aidanmccormack54436 жыл бұрын
Matt Stevens Planaria can certainly be harmful to your fish...
@spychat20005 жыл бұрын
I don't know who told you planarias are not harmful. Maybe you lack experience in aquarium hobby. Detritus are harmless and help clean decaying matter and also a good food source for fish. Anyways the OP talks a lot,. This could've been done and dusted in 5 mins. The OP repeated steps like 17 times if not more. We get it u got worms, stop panicking there is a reason why the hobby warrants a quantine tank for any aquatics species, plus the amount of ads explains why its like 18 mins long lol.

@@spychat2000 Are the Detritus worms harmful to humans? I have like thousands on them on my glass, and it was so ugly to look at, I just wiped them with magnet algae cleaner, but I did not touch the sides. Next step is to do a 50% water change, vac the gravel and stir up the gravel, then change the carbon filter and ammonia filter and hope that number goes down. They are very yucky to look at, wiggling all around, but I do see my fish catch the bigger worms and gobble them up.
@spychat20005 жыл бұрын
@@c3por2d2atnaboono they are not harmful to humans. But are u sure its detritus? If it is then that's nature taking care of excess decaying matter. Revise your feeding pattern, and look for plants melting all contributes to decaying matter. Just siphon them up with water change. I wouldn't do 50% WC as this could shock the ecosystem's(beneficial bacteria)balance. I love detritus but i know why they are there, just dial down your feeding amount. They will go away eventually. Of course that's for freshwater

@MsPunkrocker976 жыл бұрын
I stumbled across your video and noticed you have the same problem that I have been dealing with for months. Luckily you actually do not have detritus or planaria worms. What you have are nematodes which are a cause of overfeeding your tank. If your fish do not eat all of the food and some of it falls to the bottom of the tank these worms develop to help eat the rest of the food. I have tried so many things to get rid of them but they are actually beneficial to your tank in small numbers. If the numbers grow larger, then it becomes an issue. I hope this helps answer your problem and I really admire your tank. :)

I had this problem (even thousands of them) then I tried checking for solutions online when I came across your video. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I iintroduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass and like you said, they were very disgusting it bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! I couldn't see a single worm on the glass! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!

Most nematodes are harmless. My cichlid fries thrive on these detritus worms. I actually make sure to maximize feeding for the parent cichlids to maximize the poop output to feed the worms, which feed the fries. Much simpler than hatching brine shrimps. I wish for more worms when there are baby fries around. Sometimes I stir up gravel to release worms hiding in the mulm. But as one of the songs from the Greatest Showman soundtrack laments, there is "Never Enough" worms for my fries. (It does take some discipline in maximizing feeding and not overfeed, and make sure you have a well cycled filter that can handle the nitrite.) I do admit my cichlids are hardy though. They are convict cichlids. ( I just heard Jaws theme song being played.). Welcome to the hobby. May it bring you much joy.

Chay Eldridge Keep the amount of debris low, do regular water changes every week and even hold off feeding the fish for a day or two, as my shrimp and guppies enjoy these worms. The worms are actually a rather essential part of the ecosystem as they help break down waste. By limiting the amount of decaying live plant/food matter in the tank will starve them out.

I found your video after finding a couple of these in my 5gal I’m cycling... right after I found a baby snail in it. There’s nothing but plants in there. I am so mad lol.

Yeah I’m also cycling my tank for a betta and saw these worms and was so confused, I think I got them from a piece of an Indian almond leaf I put in:/

I just had this problem, well... my way is a little bit extreme, firstly... i took all the fish away together with live plants then i pour a hot water (just boiled) into the aquarium, u ll see all the death worm floating, just leave it, let it soak for 1 hour then do 100% water change 🙂

I have a problem I see a bunch of planaria in my tank and it's pretty difficult to clean my tank with an arowana trying to jump out all the time. I have a new tank that just recently bought for my arowana since that was getting small for him. I just wanted to know if I could just move him over? because I'm very scared that those worms will move into the new tank when I move him over. So I'm wondering if I should try to get rid of the worms first and when it's cleared than I can move him

Ik u said that they don’t bother your fish but I have them in my tank right now so I completely took my fish out and they are crawling all over him? 😬 what do I do?

My worms came from my moss balls! I see you have them too!

Same i purchased my moss balls from petsmart and i thought it would be a better choice then walmart or Amazon and now looking at my tank with my axolotls boy was i wrong i have no idea what to do now

It’s weird because I have worms in my tank and I had a moss ball that I took out and put in a different container, just a jar, and when I put it back a few days later I saw worms and there’s nothing else I put in there but I’m not sure why this would happen I’ve had this moss ball for about two years now and haven’t had problems?
@ashdonwellington22195 жыл бұрын
i bought filters according to my tank size plus i put an extra for good luck 🤣 cleaned the tank after every feeding and now the worms are almost gone i had to get into a better routine im sure the moss balls were carrying these pest but im glad it made me realize it was also my own laziness, that they were able to thrive.

that's probably where mine came from. I ended up throwing the ball out

How about potassium permanganate? It worked when I had planaria in my tank.

What if you have a dirted planted tank and can't gravel vac? I've never heard anything about having to keep the lights off when using this...

I couldnt watch all your video you talk way to much I even skipped it a couple times and you were still talking and not about how to kill them
@Zikrayat5 жыл бұрын
honestly with 90% of youtube videos i just put them on 1.75x speed. also it's super difficult not stating extra details when recording videos. Ive been documenting my aquarium setup and each take i go over at least twice. she was probably just in a rush.

Can anyone help me? I have the same ones she does in her tank. I have a sucker fish and one ghost shrimp my beta fish passed away and before getting a new one I've been trying to get rid of these worms. But if I use the panacur will I need to take out my fish or will they be okay?

I’m a little confused on what’s happening in my fish tank.. I found this snail, I’ve never had snails so Idk how I got him but as soon as I noticed him I noticed he had worn all over his shell. So obviously I killed him uh I have my fish in a quarantine tank to make sure he’s ok :(

I have a female betta sorority in a 20 gallon tank and I noticed these worms. I want to try to use the Panacur C but I can't find anything online about it being safe for bettas. Does anyone know?
@Arda-Personal6 жыл бұрын
But won't all of this kill all the bacteria too? Im at week 4 of cycling and noticed some of these little worms on my driftwood but they are all in a cloudy slimy stuff on my driftwood...I dont wanna start all over again with cycling :(
@Arda-Personal6 жыл бұрын
@Mert Solak I washed my wood and then put it back in. Also changed the water 70%. Then I went to the aquarium specialist and he told me that it is ''normal'' and that I should just wait. Now its gone totally... Sorry my turkish is bad thats why I typed in english :)

@Mert Solak wow nice! I wanted to buy shrimps too but they are expensive, like 8-15 euro's per one

what about the use of salt to kill the worms
@JaiRam-eb3fb5 жыл бұрын
Why can't you directly start with the solution
@gregorybrown37924 жыл бұрын
Not to be mean-spirited at all, but this was a problem for me as well. When people are freaked out about something they just want to hear the solution right at the top of the video, and not a lot of repeated discussion about how disgusting worms are. Agreed. That's why I came to the video in the first place. Anyway, please take this as constructive criticism!

You tank is still cycling and so what about the effect of chemical treatment on your beneficial bacteria build up?
@Hapsby5 жыл бұрын
I tried Panacur C, but I did not know that light deactivated the drug. It did not work with the light on. Tonight I will try again with a blackout and will come back with an update on the worm population in my tank.
@Hapsby5 жыл бұрын
Well the panacur worked. I think i overdosed the tank because i still saw worms and put more in. My shrimp were new at the time, but since then I have never seen the shrimp have a successful pregnancy. They hold eggs but the eggs are always dropped. I am not sure it is connected. In any case, the worms are super dead. One month and ive never seen one.

oh and to add onto that i’m completely terrified of worms. they freak me out. someone pls help.

One thing I've learned about nature is that even when you think you got em all they are never really gone.
@sketcho75125 жыл бұрын
If you dont have fish or take them out. Why not get your aquarium and dry to to the sun . 1day will be good for toasted crispy worms i guess. Would that work? Or this "planaria" is just crazily alien survivors?

My betta has some white worm hanging on it and I think it’s hookworm. I removed it off the fish and now I got my tank covered and I’m treating it with a chemical. Does anyone have more advice ?

Great job sticking with your tank cycling!! These worms sound like a pain.. I'm learning a lot about cycling though!
