The only combiner who could be considered successful (as in a perfect melding of the components' minds) in Gen 1 was Predaking, who in all the Gen 1 media except the cartoon was shown to retain the intelligence, cunning, and ferocity of the Predacons, united flawlessly by their love of the hunt and able to work as one single predatory beast.

Favorite combiner: Volcanicus. Not necessarily for ability or anything like that. The Dinobots are my favorite team of characters and I'm so happy to see they got an official gestalt form after so long. The giant sword is obviously a plus.

Honestly Volcanicus is one of my favorite Autobot combiners, only matched with Superion. Making the Dinobots a combiner team was a genius move, the full robot looks so coherent with the gold and silver of the bots, just like the Seacons, except the Seacons were designed to be a combiner from the start, and Volcanicus was an engineering miracle from modern times :D

My favorite combiners are Safeguard and Defensor! Safeguard because I love his component characters very very much, and Defensor because his honorable mother hen personality is an adorable and refreshing departure from “big scary dumb bot”

I friggin LOVE combining robots! Ever since watching Power Rangers at a young age, the idea of multiple machines combining into one BIGGER robot by folding and changing their appearance has always fascinated me, and I'm very glad that the franchise of Transformers is another franchise that keeps the concept alive and kicking!😁

My favorite combiners are Devastator and Predaking :) Scramble City style combiners do not sit well with me. I prefer it when each member has a specific spot.

My favorite combiners have always been Superion and Bruticas. Superion because the team that makes him is awesome. Being that they were the break out bots for the autobots side that were planes. Bruticas because the team I feel pretty much sum up what it means to be decepticons. Especially with Onslaught and Swindle. Who are two of my favorite decepticons.

Victoryion should’ve gotten a back story and we should’ve got the names of the components. If I gotten a chance to make a combiner my combiner will consist of Charger: a leader that lives music and a drilliant statagest, transforms into a Dodge Charger ( top part of the torso ) HailStorm: a winter snow truck that loves smashing things with his hammer ( left leg ) Flatcab: a juggernaut that is very compassionate to others and turns into a flat bed for cars ( right leg ) Ferno: that loves fire and racing, turning into a off-road Jeep ( right arm ) RamBlast: a bot that loves ramming into stuff and has mix up body ( Left arm ) Gearshift : the group medic and turns into a Ambulance ( bottom part of the torso) Together they form the combiner Nexus Subliner, a student to Nexus Prime himself

Excellent video series. I'd be curious for an explanation as to how the movie Constructicons work. I remember all of the individual Bots being sold separately, even under different names, and then their vehicle forms part of Devastator, but with no robot transformation ..it was all so peculiar.

The leading combiner characters seriously reminds me how 9 times out of 10 the red power ranger’s zord either makes the entire body of the megazord or just the torso where the other zords make the limbs (I’m not the only one who noticed that right?)

Something I would like to know more about is one of the few Transformer units that as far as I know, never got a Combiner form despite being all the way back in G1 (like the Dinobots) - the INSECTICONS. The team from G1 is the one most recognise, but then there's all the different bots as part of the Insecticon subspecies (also like the Dinobots), so there's a lot to cover. The Insecticons were pretty much the Decepticons answer to the Dinobots, so it makes sense that they shared a lot of qualities - though the smaller size of the Insecticons meant a mass-produced version of them was involved in one or more Eras of the show. You may want to include some other things that, while not technically Insecticons, are similar enough to be talked about, like the Scraplets - and don't forget to mention that Starscream was for a very brief time an Insecticon, when the ghost of his Spark possessed the body of Waspinator during the Beast Wars! (Starscream and his transcendental spark could be a video of it's own, too!)

Hearing the name Geshtalt and seeing the term Combiner I just thought of what if we got The Geshtalticons Vs The CombinerBots Transformers who don't have a singular theme for their alt-modes (basically mix and match vehicles) who can combine with each other. Each Transformer able to unlock an ability the combined form can achieve only by having that certain member as part of their combination like flight, speed, a super weapon. (think of the incident when Prowl became the head of Devestator in the comics) The names of course are from the terms used to describe them while the added parts are their factions

Predaking is easily my fave combiner, unlike other deception combiners he isn't flawed and is an unstoppable force....however i will say rail racer is pretty cool too. i also really like megatronia as her entire concept is brilliant

Was so excited when Devastator first came out. Saw the Contructicons at Toys R Us and picked them up immediately. Imagine my chagrin when I merged them together to find that Devastator was only about as tall as G1 Soundwave. Some giant…

Late to the party, but favourite Combiner is and always will be Bruticus. Come on, he's made out of my favourite special team and is basically a walking warhead. Also, the Combaticons have Swindle. Swindle is amazing. Swindle makes up Bruticus' leg, so that already makes Bruticus 1/5 amazing.

Gen 1 Bionicle had combiners, but they are called fusions. And depending on who the fusion is, could prove a challenge to or defeat a Transformers Combiner.

There was an origin story in the marvel comics involving Buster Witwicki having nightmares that predicted the special teams, due to him having stored the creation matrix in his brain. It got rather dark as I recall.

My personal favourite are the combaticons. They have the incredibly strong benefit of being made of inherently cool vehicles. Also giant back cannons are a personal favourite design choice for me.

Idea: A combiner that is it’s own entity that can split up into smaller bots that all share the same consciousness to lure enemies into a false sense of security. EDIT: Here’s another: We always get combiners with voyager torsos and deluxe class limbs, so why not a combiner with a leader class torso and voyager class limbs, or a combiner with a commander class torso with leader class limbs, hell, how about a combiner with a titan class torso with commander class limbs? Or maybe something small, like one with a deluxe class torso with core class limbs?

Bruticus, easy. Not a big fan of Vortex's sadism, but Onslaught and Blast Off have a nice dynamic in that they're two Decepticons that actually respect each other, and Swindle and Brawl are both charming in their own way.

Chris - Origins of the Transformers combiners can be traced back to Diaclone , as they have Multiple figures that are 2 Vehicles in 1 Robot , 3 in 1 and 5 in 1 . they are also the Origin of Transformers Devastator & Raiden as these were Original 6 figure combiners Directly from the Diaclone line . and later the 5 Robot Combiners are a Direct Hasbro Invention as are the 6 Combiners in TF Victory. and we did not see TRAIN ROBO - Raiden until Headmasters , even though it came out the Same time as Devastator did in Diaclone .

Nice video.I know combiners are big, when they shift they are bigger loke for example, like optimus prime, isnt big as superions leg. And that there are gestalts which I think more than the other different combined mode. And that also 5 bots, or 6 if your devastator. Megatron got his hands on the process. Then devastator is the first decepticon combiner. And prime was able to prove that autobots could combine, like how we see Defensor, and superion, conputron. Scramble city made sense, because when bots are in a hurry to combine they become different limbs, except the torso. I think combiners were part of the war, because their class and massive size, which made battle or defense high. This is what I know. And most combiners are decepticons. And very few autobot ones. And that when the are stable they began to function. Most ones that are unstable, like Superion in war dawn for example. He didn't move when the guardian attacked him. Meaning he is unstable. That's why when we saw like devastator I'm heavy metal war, when prime shot him, and forced him to disengage that proves that they are unstable. Which proves when there are combienrs that are old ones like superion and devastator they are unstable, like new ones like Defensor, and bruticus, they are more stable. And then the enigma became a target for Megatron to make combiners so be can have advantage over the autobots. Like Superion was able to be formed not from the enigma of combination, becuase vector sigma gave him the power to combine. And Predaking is the biggest and baddest, because he is formed form beasts, even volcanicus to. But in RID combiners don't seem to fit like how the gestalts were in g1. Like Reflector would've been a giant version of viewfinder Spector and spyglass, if that ever happened. My favorite combiner is mostly the g1 combiners.

Can we get some clarification on what kills a combiner? I’ve seen tons of combiners get slicked in half or decapitated and then the seemingly undamaged limb lads are also treated as KIA. Why is that?
