I live in the Adirondack area and it's tough fishing sometimes lake champlain, especially ice fishing it. But when the fishing is good, it tops a lot of places. Great smallmouth and lake trout fishery.

Went fishing on Lake Champlain for Lakers on a charter boat many years ago and the lampreys were awful. We would reel in the fish with 2-3 lampreys hanging off of them. They are disgusting and very foul smelling. The captain collected them and said the only way to kill them is to cut their heads off. He said one of the reasons there are so many in Lake Champlain is because the Dept. of Conservation on the Vermont side are reluctant to use lampricides in the streams that feed the lake where they spawn. I guess they still don't.
@tomatoplot6 жыл бұрын
Not the case, at least on the VT side of the lake. Lampricide is used regularly during the lamprey spawn and their numbers are way down.

The clipped fin more than likely denotes a stocked fish. Most stocked trout have clipped fins that are an indication of what year they were released. And Champlain is stocked by 2 different states. Not sure how much they coordinate.

I live there, where were you guys fishing. If your fishing in Bulwagga Bay the fishing has slowed down. If you move North to Westport that's where the fishing has picked up. 5 gallon pail of perch, 1 laker and 1 pike

Love the vids bro. We have the same fishing gypsy blood. Live on the susquehanna in Harrisburg so I'm always out chasin smallies but I prob fish NY n the coast jst as much between salmon, pike and stripers at island beach (I'm one of the maniacs on the END of the jetty lol). Butttttt.....I've NEVER been ice fishing. A kid I mentors parents have given me a 3 day trip to champlain to take the kid ice fishing (he has all the gear). We are going to missiquo (?) Wildlife refuge on the northern end of the lake, Vermont side. Have noooo clue how to target Lakers but would love to. Any help would be appreciated. More than welcome to join us as well. Tight lines bro

If you haven't come across Bass Fishing Jersey's channel on KZbin, search him out. He does a good amount of fishing at Round Valley, even some with Seamoney, and I think you'll find what you're looking for in his vids fishing on Round Valley. Good luck!

ouch... yea norms is where we got them. we went to george later in this trip and paid 7.99 a dozen... we fell for all the tourist traps
@daltonv52066 жыл бұрын
Sea-Money Fishing he's a nice enough guy and if you forgot anything he probably has it there, but you're gonna pay for it. You can almost always count on him having bait if there's a bait shortage like early this winter. If you went straight (instead of turning down the bridge Rd)a few miles just before you get into Port Henry there's a little shop on the left called FMB. Best prices I've ever seen for bait. Awesome guy too. Open till 8am every morning and all day on the weekends. Lake George is always inflated price wise. It's the playground of the wealthy from NYC. Glad to see ya caught some fish though! Champlain has been putting out increasingly bigger/heavier fish since the alewifes showed up. Monster cats too
@nathanking90834 жыл бұрын
@@daltonv5206 john at fmb is like the coolest guy n swear he must just break even on his tackle n such there 20bucks goes along way at his store for sure ..thank u john....I would have to dis agree with u on the invasion of the alwives...when the dominant bait fish was smelt here the lake was a true gem ...we would get perch all day n smelt allnite n catch few lakers an salmon long the way ..those days are gone ...n do a lil research on alwives ...they have neurotoxin that in quantity can destroy the reproductive organs of larger fish ...where we once could get 100smelt a night not even trying I haven't caught one smelt in the same waters in ...12...maybe 15 years ...real shame
