This was a super fun session to film. I started off stalking and free lining single worm baits jigging them about in the slacks of this tiny flooded river. It was a great success catching a cracking chub and perch. Then i went back out with the static roving gear to be able to sit and wait in some of the best swims using maggots and worms down the margins and in the slacks where the bigger fish were holding out of the main flow. It was almost a case of find the minnows, find the big fish. It was great fun. Hope you enjoy!

Quick tip for you buddy. Stalking g through dense undergrowth, turn your rod through 180°, that way the tip trails behind you, no risk of a snapped tip ring! Tight lines Rich

I use a 16's-18's barbed hook just below a 8's-10's hook.I catch the minnows,then leave the minnow on. It works like a hair rig.The chub/trout/perch take the live minnow and the larger hook.Trotting under a float seems to work best.

Excellent session Chris. I really enjoy watching you do this kind of small , wild river fishing. It reminds me of some of the stuff I do round here. The fish aren't super big but the sport is so much fun. And those Chub were in beautiful winter condition. It made me wonder if they had ever been hooked before. Keep up the great work mate. Back to the canals and lakes soon.☺🎣

I recommend you take a pair of pruning shears/ secateurs when you hit the banks like that. Easy to holster on your belt or pocket, and indispensable to drop those pesky limbs out of your way. Great video!

I grew up kind of poor. I would bring a pruning saw with me in the winter. When the leaves were off, if I saw a lure someone hung and lost, and if I could reach the branch, I would cut the branch and get a free lure!
@davidelliott8324
@davidelliott8324 2 жыл бұрын
@@kennethjackson7574 Me too brother. My uncle and I used to go out as soon as the leaves fell and go lure picking, from the bank or from a canoe. I usually carry a machete with me nowadays, but I imagine pruners would be better for him and the spectators always on those canals

Great sport... lovely Chub...if there is a 2 lb perch...there may well be a 4 lb +chub in there...here is the chub challenge!...take a fish of about 2 lb..gently push your index finger down its throat till you feel those phalangeal teeth... fascinating adaptation for thease species.....wiggle your finger down there for about 7 seconds....n see what might happen....
