When I was a kid in the 1970s I found an old fishing book that was probably from the 1950s and one of the pages told how to fish with a live mouse as bait. It was rigged just like your thumbnail, a rubber band around the mouse which would hold the hook. I never used a live mouse for bait but that page of the book stuck with me forever!

Great video. My missus would freak out if she found a bag of mice in the freezer! Lol. She's terrified of them. I see an article many years ago, think it was the 70's in angling times. It was Dick Walker & a mate, catching Pike on full-size brown rats!! Dead ones. They were fishing gravel pit, where Rats used to swim across to the island, for the birds eggs. They landed a few. Great channel love it. 👍

I don't understand why people find it strange that a predator will eat anything that fits in it's mouth. Pike especially, those mofo's will eat ducks / seagulls / small dogs / cats ect~ they just have to get big enough.

A few years back I was fishing in a well known local river which is a tributary to the river Thames, I was fishing for Chub and having a good session. Whilst fishing a Rat was keeping me amused swimming backwards and forwards across the river with pieces of bread that people had been feeding the Ducks with earlier and had landed in the reeds so the rivers flow hadn’t washed it down stream. Anyway on its way across on the poor chaps final time a huge Pike came up from underneath him and took him whole , I honestly couldn’t believe it, the flipping thing WAS massive. I have never seen that behavior before or since I might add but it truly shocked me.

I have always liked surface lure fishing for pike, good video again thanks , cheers for now. Think ill have a go at making a mouse/ rat lure !
@dawggonevidz91403 ай бұрын
I found with luring predatory species, my very best results come not from casting my lures into the water, but casting onto a bank, or any structure out of the water, and letting the lure fall into the water from there. Where there's overhanging tree branches, casting into the water under branches gives a similar success rate. When you think about it, you're trying to fool the fish into thinking a mouse has fallen into the water, so asking yourself "fallen from where though," and casting there is a good starting point to figure out where the fish may lie.

About 15 years ago I was fishing the Ouse and noticed a small overflow stream. It was only about 10 inches deep. Someone had been cutting the grass and I noticed a dead Mole which I hooked on and cast into the stream. I had a pike and big chub battling it out for it each time it passed them. Eventually the pike took it weighing in at around 10 lbs.
