My final thoughts on the 7artisans 35mm 0.95 lens for Fujifilm cameras. I've been using it this week on various photo shoots, and these are my thoughts based on my recent experiences with this lens.

i stopped being concerned about corner sharpness some time ago. i now subscribe to the notion that if someone is examining the corners of your image for flaws, then you are already past the point of failure in terms of composition. the 7artisans is a joy to use and provides a lovely rendering. i have mostly used it wide open or close to wide open (with a variable ND filter) for portraits, street, and general shooting. at working landscape apertures it performs as well as nearly any modern lens. incidentally, i'm fairly sure the dots on the aperture ring are there because there isn't sufficient room for the numerals; so the dot between 8 and 16 is supposed to represent 11. click stops would definitely be an improvement for the ring. it is an interesting characteristic that the spacing isn't the linear scaling we're used to with most aperture rings, which i imagine is due to the mechanics of the linkage between the ring and the aperture blades.

Yes, Fuji is great for "painting, that's one of the reasons I can't get rid of it... I've been making a lot of oil painting, and it's so easy... 7art 35mm is a good tool for painting, but also all the other lenses. Actually, I made some of my best shots with the cheap 16-50 zoom, so underrated. it has a beautiful rendering for painting landscapes with velvia, for example.

It's certainly a fantastic lens. It's available now for around £190, maybe a bit less if you hunt around. I'm not sure the XC and this are comparable really, other than focal length. The XC35 is a budget option to the XF equivalent, this 7Artisans a budget option to the Mitakon 35mm. I think you really buy this lens because you can and should use it wide open, that's its strength and weakness. It lends itself to a specialism in photography, but equally can be used generally if needed, albeit with some caveats.
