i have a couple of 7s but i understand the new software and hardware is only available for 8 and 10. is my hardware incompatible with this feature or will i get the show mode capability later on?

I didn't hear of a software update for anything other than the newer HD 8 and HD 10. You may have to upgrade if you want this feature.

Got Fire 10 Plus. Show More is disabled in Canada. Does not show up when swiping down from the top. Will not activate with Amazon US account or VPN. Even the voice commands in the Alexa app doesn't work.

Go into your Alexa setting and enable 'Tablet ESP Behavior'. This will allow Alexa to intelligently determine which device you're closest to (should they have the same wake word), and only respond from that device. It works like a charm!

Good general explanation and implementation of the HD Fire tablet with the Show dock. I have the 10" version and have connected it via Bluetooth to an external powered speaker system and it sounds great.

BillyLapTop yes I agree. My only grip is the sound from the tablet that I didn’t mention in the video. If you listen to music it is imperative you use a Bluetooth speaker. Thanks for watching the video :)

Nice review! :) I'm not really sold on the dock idea, though. Not at $40. You can put the Fire Tablet (at least the 8) in Show mode without buying the stand. So I feel like I'd rather just stand it up with my folio case, have it plugged in, and put it in Show mode that way.

Brian Hartman You’re absolutely right. The dock is just a nice way to keep the screen visible and charge it at the same time. But if you want to keep your money in your pocket, your way will work as well.

In the previous fire hd 8 model functioning as an echo show, you were not able to change the wake word, nor could you add it to a music group. have you been able to determine if it can be added to “groups” and can the wake word be changed from “Alexa”

Great video. Are there any limitations of the Fire HD 8 tablet when functioning as an Echo Show? I use the sleep timer feature all the time on my other Echo devices, and was curious if it works for this as well. Thanks!

timezones88 I use the timer and alarm all the time. Works great! The only negative I have of this setup is the audio quality from the Fire HD speakers. Not the best to listen to music to. But you can pair a Bluetooth speaker to it so there’s that.

Can a Rotating Finger Ring be attached to the back of a fire HD8 and snap into the case for the Show Mode Dock? I'm wondering if it will cause a poor connection.

I have a number of dots which I can have "play music everywhere", but, I also have the dock, and it does not recognize it to do so. Have you figured out how to add it to the set?

No I haven’t tried to pair the dock to all of the other echos so to stream music all at the same time. I’ll try to do that to see if they recognize it. Every other device is really easy to sync to each other. I wonder why this one would have problems.

Ricardo Villalobos someone else in the comments asked about the drop in feature. I have yet to try it. I’ve never used that feature on any of my echo devices but it seems to be a huge question everyone has.

I've been trying to disable show mode with my voice and it wont let me. You can go into the show mode settings and turn off the automatic switching to show mode when docked though.

Bogzdee Dee no not yet. But I just read an article that stated that the Fire HDs support the drop in video calls feature from a few months back. I’ll test it myself in a few days. Let me know if you get yours working.

If you have your Fire HD plugged in with the USB charger, it will respond to your voice if you call for Alexa. It will not go into the official "Show Mode" however. If all you want is for your tablet to respond to voice commands, you don't really need the dock unless you want the fancy Show Mode face and for your tablet to sit upright so you can see the time, weather and cards.

Chrispy Things hello on the tablet I pressed the button to switch to show mode, I don't have a docking station however whenever I say "Alexa disable show mode" it does absolutely nothing and I'm unable to get my apps or anything on the tablet, it only shows the times, weather,etc

It shouldn't go into "show mode" without a dock. So I'm not really sure how you got yours to go into show mode without it. But under settings there is a switch for show mode, you can try to disable it there.

Yes you can. As long as they both have an Echo device and hooked up to the internet. I do it all the time :)

djbolling Good question. I just tried to drop in on mine and it won’t let me. I went to the Alexa app and I don’t see any option to turn it on or off for drop ins. Unless I’m missing something.
