Ok, I'll go first. That was great, thanks! Loved the recent postcards video, too. Agreed, the 601 "Flighter" is great fun. Hongdian does a great job with their metal pens, too.

Good day Chris. I have a Cross Century that's often left 3+ months and hasn't dried out yet. My parkers seems to be pretty reliable after a few months too. Not had a Chinese pen (even screw cap penbbs) that can cope with being left for longer than a month. - might be looking at a WS601 now though. You're a bad influence, thanks!

I have a few Chinese pens that stay wet. Agree on PenBBS, a month is max.

Hi, Chris, and thanks for a very interesting show. I have a 601A (being a fan of the original Sheaffer Triumph nibs). It took a while to get it to flow and write smoothly, and now it's another rugged all-day pen. After watching this episode I have just ordered a transparent 601 for a grand-daughter's birthday. Just as with the original "51", the size is pretty close to ideal for me, and I don't mind hooded nibs--avoids inky fingers. All the best from Down Under. Bruce from Briagalong.

Glad to hear you like the 601A with tubular nib. The stiffness & fell on paper was not for me. My Triumph nibs are stiff but are buttery smooth & a slight upturn that I like. Enjoy your summer, -5C & soon snow here. Stay safe & healthy.

The Parker 45 was my first fountain pen, given to me by my grandfather in 1965. Still have it, still writes.

I love the 601! I do love the tubular nibs though. That HongDian is catching my eye. I also love the Mass 54th and Lexington Grey. Both great shades. I recently got a couple new Birmingham inks. One is Dewberry, from their Everlasting ink line. It's a new favorite for sure. Great video, my man!!

I have Dewberry too. Haven't learned to like it yet.

@@chrisrap52 I try out as many waterproof inks as i can. for my line work, it's really the best choice. So far, mixing my own colors from the DeAtramentis document inks has been my best bet.

Excellent video! You may have seen my post in the FB group a week or so about about my experience buying and using the Jinhao 86. That was my first experience both with this design and with a hooded nib and I really enjoyed the experience.At least two of the replies suggested the Wing Sung 601 as the best one to get. That combined with your video here settles my mind; I will order one shortly. Really interesting seeing the comparison with the Parkers 45 and 51. Anyway, great video. I enjoyed watching your trip through them. Keep these coming.

Really nice video! I have a lot of these models and find the Wing Sung 601 to be the most reliable. It really never seems to dry out! I have one that went about a year without use and was still wet when I reached for it. Not the most interesting line, but an excellent tool nonetheless.

I also find 618 to stay wet for long periods.

Sad that my wing sung 601 broke with the last drop.. Mine stayed wet for 2 years, until it ran out then i filled it back up to the top and was wet for another more until it broke. Would love to get a metal barrel so it doesnt die on me with my abuse. I went for a couple jinhao 911's as a 51 style metal body pen. The baoer 388 is also pretty indestructible and has lasted me forever, though it doesnt dry out. Thanks to to you i got a bobby nib in the 601 which made it my dream pen. I just ordered a 1a capless and a pair of jinhao 80's as per your new vids. I always loved the aesthetic of the lamy 2000 and always wanted a clicky pen but hated the clip location on the pilot version. The inspired ones look just as good if not better, to me. Edit: why did you have to make me get a metal 601? Thank you though, now i can have my favorite never drying pen and not worry about the barrel cracking from a drop.

My first fountain pen was a Parker 45 given to me by my grandmother in 1960 when I was 12 years old. We both still write 😄, but alas we both show signs of age.

I ended up getting the metal section for my 601 too. The cap doesn’t seem to seal as well. It looks great but is disappointing. I hope wingsung comes out with their own version some day.

Out of these models, which do you suggest more for EDC? With the least drying issue and better quality

The 601s are the best. I had one lost for a year on the floor under the radiator. Uncapped & it write immediately, amazing.

And not a Kaigelu in sight... These are good choices for EDC. I liked the 601A with the tubular nib. According to people on FPN, those tubular nibs are leftovers from the 90s. I have over a dozen new-old stock Wing Sungs. I would encourage anyone considering the 601A to buy an old Wing Sung for a couple of dollars first before spending the money. . The nibs look cool and the smooth ones are nice to write with but the quality can be inconsistent. Lord help you if you have to smooth one. Those old nibs are tough as nails. I also sprung one just writing normally. I've never done that before. The hooded one is looking pretty good to me right about now.

If there is any stainless steel on the 601 it didn’t react to my magnet. Great pen though mine been filled and used since I got it a year ago. Thx for vid!
@chrisrap523 жыл бұрын
Some stainless steel (with no nickle) will be magnetic. My 601s have some magnetic attraction to top of cap. My guess there are steel parts in clip. Cap & barrel not magnetic & are a non-magnetic stainless steel..

Nice video. Thanks. BTW, how do you like your orange and black Decograph AL pens comparing with these four?

Different pen. For me, Decograph is a desk pen. I like mine, use reqularly but not as much as these pens.

@@chrisrap52 Thanks for your reply and sharing your opinion. BTW, I am personally using a silver Monteverde Ritma as EDC pen in my jeans pocket. Pretty solid pen and silver color is more or less beat-up proof. I had some hack work for the converter portion and basically got converter screwed in place instead of just a plug-in, which may lead to a converter falloff when dropping the pen. I also polished the edge of barrel a bit so it's not too sharp since I hold pen rather high and the original finish was a bit too sharp for me. Now I am thinking about 601 or 601A with tubular nib.
@sillypinkmate3 жыл бұрын
@@StephonRen I've been setting my eyes on monteverde ritma. They look cool, especially the dark green finish. But idk if this info's legit: some people mentioned an issue regarding bad cap sealing because of that magnetic mech, ink vaporates in less than 3 days. Is it true man? I love the look and probably the size of it, looks like a great EDC, but it ain't the cheapest pen especially if that issue is legit.
@StephonRen3 жыл бұрын
@@sillypinkmate I at least use the pen twice to when going in and out office building. I have not notice any issue even with some "thick" ink. But I am not sure if it gets hard start after idling for 3 days since I have not done the experiment. One issue with mine is that a little rust spot developed on the inner surface of section. I never used any iron gall or chemically harsh ink. The most aggressive ones just have low viscosities being thick/dry. Maybe magnetic steel is not stainless? The only practical impact of the rust spot is that it is quite hard to screw out the nib assembly. So pulling out nib and feed for Niv swapping and feed cleaning is the easier way.
@sillypinkmate3 жыл бұрын
@@StephonRen I see. Thanks a lot man. That issue seems on the minor side albeit annoying. Maybe I'll have to experiment the sealing mech myself when I have it. Luckily ritma has a number 6 size nib, pretty easy to find replacements. My current EDC pen, platinum plaisir, has its nib tweaked like a hook, thanks to its slippery texture it fell down my hand.... Wanna explore some more EDC pens out there and looking at ritma seems quite promising.

Hi Chris, really enjoying the EDC theme. I absolutely love my Wing Sung 601. It's a great daily carry; it kind of makes me wonder about the original Parker 51 and what an amazing pen that was in history. Ps, back on my bike, how's your bicycle going? Chels
