Hello from the US - Commonwealth of VA to be exact - to all of the UK crafty people I send you days and days of crafting joy!!!! I so enjoy the little videos produced by Christine - yes I too am old - well by the number of years I have been on the earth - 73 now but closing in on 74 in a mere 2 1/2 weeks!!! Thank you Christine for the great ideas as to how to use gilding flakes. I have just begun to add this technique to my craft stash. I don’t like scissor or trimmer cut edges against die-cuts, which always look so much more finished. This technique helps a little! 🙂🙂🙂

If you embossed the gilded side rather than deboss it, the trees could be inked, (although they are not flat like the background) which would leave the flakes as the background.

I love you videos and that, like most of us, you occasionally make mistakes or lose words! I buy fish filter material for my bettas and realized it is basically the same material as your scooti. It’s pretty inexpensive and works like a charm. In the US you can find it at Walmart, Petco, PetSmart and any aquarium supply store. There are different grades of filter but it’s pretty easy to eyeball and pick out what will work. Hope this is helpful!

I'm sitting here asking myself why didn't I think of using a tape runner to fill in the bald spots! I totally love this idea! I thank you for doing these videos, because, as you stated in another video, sometimes we just forget about using some supplies, be it this or other things that we love. It's fun to get the "next new thing", but the older ones are still worth pulling out.

A simple stencil brush works fine as does a green kitchen scourer, and burnish it with the cover paper from the sticky background.

@@veronicac6969 i looked it up on hobby lobby, its a Ranger product called "Rub it Scrub it" it's 6x6 so you can cut it into pieces. It works perfectly! It's all I use, I bought several and saved them. They are 2.99. Wish I could put a picture of it for you.

Hi. The card you showed at the start of the video was breathtaking in it's simple beauty - I loved the oval frame - and then you come up with inking over the gilding to take it yet another level. Pure genius! As for the camera accidently zooming out, I was glad as I was able to see what ink you were using in order to get suitable coverage over the gilding flakes. A US substitute for the scoochie might be quick change brush cleaner. It is meant to clean eyeshadow off a brush with no water. It appears to be , and sound like, the same material. I could not find my flakes to try it. Many of these come in a little tin for around $5 so it would be someplace to store the scoochie too to find it later but also control the flake dust. Yes, I went to the US dollar store today for something else and found one of these brush cleaner things in the beauty aisle. Came with the storage tin, too. Found my flakes, worked great. I would bet the higher quality one produced less dust, but the $1.25 option worked great. Thank you so much. I hated the mess and waste trying to use the flakes. I did have variegated flakes and have made a beautiful Thanksgiving card because of you excellent ideas and easy to follow demonstration. Thank you so much!

I like a soft baby toothbrush for the flakes. Especially in small areas. Works good. Love your tiny work space. Reminds me of my own card making area. This area is small spot in my home office. Art studio is large with wood stove for winter warmth and 3 cats and Border Collie for company. Hubbies wood shop is right next door to my studio. Looking forward to winter coming in and MORE time in the studio and hanging with my cats, dog and hubby for the long, dark winter months 🙃

great teaching and what a wonderful embossing folder that is. I love the use of visual space (I'm probably not saying that correctly) but by that I mean that cards are rarely centered but the balance is perfect. I suspect that's a skill that will take me a while to develop. thank you so much for doing these videos.

Christine excellent technique idea with using your ink on the raised edges. Love the colour of your gilding flakes. Here in North America in place of the schooie I use a rub it scrub pad, works the same.

These are great! I have a scootchie tool, it's on a wooden handle. It came from USArt quest, which is closed I think. The brushes here may be called stipple brushes. My stash is really old so I'm not sure they're still sold. I can't wait to try this!

I was visiting my son and I have limited craft items and I bought some gilding flakes but didn't have my sponge so I had a look around for something to use when I found bathroom sponge and yes I cut it down but yes it works just as good as those purpose made sponge thing , so if you don't have one of them it's worth a try
