I used to be a pro choice advocate for 45 yrs. Then I became a postpartum doula and worked with the largest health systems in the USA on perinatal safety protocols and, especially on decreasing BIPOC infant and maternal injury and death rates. The cognitive dissonance created by trying to save BIPOC lives in one room while destroying a baby of the same age in the next room is massively impactful. The health systems make a big show of trying to improve BIPOC mortality rates while making massive amounts of money on terminating BIPOC babies at a higher rate. Whether a in utero baby’s life is ended or saved should not depend on how wanted they are by their mother. You cannot see what I’ve seen and face the realities without understanding that pro choice is sentencing unwanted babies to death. All the terminology that we used to distance ourselves from that reality (fetus, terminating a pregnancy, my body my choice, forced birth, etc) does not change the fact that we are allowing mothers to decide whether or not to kill their developing babies at the same time we are spending millions of dollars to save babies in exactly the same situation except for that their moms want them.
