Deguchi has already figured how to fight Klimkat

A rivalry made up by Judo media and Canada's Federation trying (forcing I should say) to portray it as the "Abe/Maruyama duel" of the 57kgs while in fact there was never really any debate until the dubious affair of the 2021 World Championship where Nicholas Gill and his crew literally screw Deguchi by shitting on all she had accomplished before that putting her in the unconfortable situation of the one who has everything to lose to a judoka (Klimkait) who until then had neevr made it to the podium of a WC and had 0-6 losing streak against the Tokyo 2019 World Champion. Anyway, Canada paid for it at Tokyo Olympics and "only" got the Bronze. Now Deguchi needed time to get back to business after what happened, and her victory at the 2023 World Championship definitely helped it. Adams and the media will keep trying to hype so that opposition to no end but the truth is that aside from sharing the same nationality, there is nothing special in their oppostion. While Deguchi is probably the best of a very filled category, Klimkait is "just" one of the top girl - among with the likes of Silva, Funakubo etc. There is nothing of the mano-mano at the very top of the world that Abe and Maruyama have had for the 5 years.

I'm not Canadian, nor Japanese and this is the same idea I had on this "rivalry". If the canadian coaching staff went with Deguchi in the Tokyo Olimpics, I'm certain they could have had a gold medal in 57 kg. Klimkait has a technical gap that separates her from Deguchi: she performes only dropping tecniques (seoi nage and sode), has only a tactic judo, extreme phisicality and less than stellar ne waza - even if she is doing better nowadays. Deguchi is a great tecnician in tachi waza (o soto gari, o uchi gari, tomoe nage, tai otoshi, harai goshi,etc...) with great improvisational skills when it's required and has a great feeling with ne waza fighting. Overall an exquisite judoka with japanese background. May the better of the two go to the Paris 2024, this time.
