Forging a Basket Twist S Hook // Blacksmith Projects to Sell

In this vid, I show you forging a basket twist s hook. This type of s hook would make a nice additional to your blacksmith projects to sell locally or in an online store. This is one of those more advanced blacksmithing projects, but it is a lot of fun to make!
You can use this blacksmith basket twist technique on other projects. An example is a basket twist handle. A metal basket twist makes an attractive decorative detail to your ironwork! Set yourself apart with a blacksmith basket twists in some of your projects!

Skill? For blades? Compared to this? I find this sort of stuff harder than blades. Sure, once you see how it's done, it's not all that difficult. But coming up with designs, and then a way to convince a hot piece of iron to shape itself according to said design... Calculating how much material you need for a particular part you're going to draw out or upset, ... Compared to that, hammering out a mostly 2-d shape and refining on the belt grinder (or angle grinder if that's your thing) is child's play.

I generally skip drawing out then ends until the basket is to my liking. Keeping them square-ish helps with the twist and counting turns. I also cool out the ends so that they don’t deform. Try mounting your twists vertically and giving the top end a few taps after the back twist opens it. It helps to give it the girth you want.

Noticed you are using a one sided tool for twisting. I'm just learning right now and lots of other use 2 sided tools for twisting. May i ask why you use a single sided tool for twisting? Others have mentioned you wanted two sided for the evenness of the twist and potentially saves you from extra random bends. Would you suggest a newer person to use a single or double ended tool for twisting?

You need to do some serious editing! You had an outtake at the first, then when you proceeded to weld, that audio continued to run in the background after you applied flux and began to work the pieces. Don't expect subscribers as long as you're acting like an amateur.

There is 1100+ more videos on the channel with plenty of work and instruction.some people think they have all the information they need to make a project like this by just observing and this is incorrect. The very fact that you have clicked on a how to video in the first place is to learn and hear instruction on how to make something that you can't currently make on your own volition.

@@ChristCenteredIronworks Oh I get that, however this happened to be the first thing I've seen of yours and I'd be afraid of hearing too much talk. I get you need to talk a bit, sadly we sort of get what you're doing already, and I dare say most who are looking at you videos, are familiar with forging to a greater or lesser degree. The easy fix for me is to turn off the sound but that leaves a lot of dead air with no action as you are pontificating. Hence, my initial post. Good luck. Mind you, there are many who don't speak English and do videos, and never say a word in there videos. Just an occasional heat treat, or annealing spec.....and that's all that is required.
