I know city. Don't go by videos. This city sitting on tectonic plate. Any big earthquake will take investments to dust. It happened in past. Auckland, Hamilton are safe

Only issue with CHCH is earthquake. If it happen again then investment will be stuck.

New Zealand is on the boundary of the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates. If you are concerned about earthquakes then you should probably avoid buying property in most parts of New Zealand or other seismically active areas of the Earth.
