Dear little Charles , indeed so adored by his grandparents as caracatho here also says. The King and Queen were so loving , especially when Princess Elizabeth, as she was then , spent most of 2 years of his young life and that of baby Anne , away from them in Malta. Prince Philip, as fully serving naval officer had been posted there . Princess Elizabeth chose to leave them at home and would come back to visit and have them to stay in Malta for a little visit. Then it so awful to recall how prematurely the King died and then the year after her coronation as Queen , she decided to make a 6 month tour abroad , leaving the children at home again . At least the Queen Mother , as She had become known , was there to love and care for them .

It was on 15 December 1948 that Prince Charles’s christening took place. Prince Charles of Edinburgh, as he was known at the time of his birth, had been born only four weeks and three days before his christening as the first child of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh. Not only was the infant Prince the King’s first grandchild, but he was also second-in-line to succeed King George VI. The usual location for royal christenings at Buckingham Palace, the Private Chapel, had been damaged a few years before, during World War II, so instead the christening took place in the Music Room, and it was performed by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Geoffrey Fisher, who had also officiated at the wedding of Prince Charles’s parents in November 1947

Her title was derived from her father (Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma ... The royals wore such elaborate clothing in those days. Princess Elizabeth seems swathed in wool suiting. Clothing has become so much more casual yet still dignified among the royals. And every lady wore a hat, as did my own mother. I used to try on her hats, especially the ones with veils!

Queen Elizabeth was such an adorable grandmother. You can tell she was so proud of her first grandbaby whereas the Queen Moth was just holding him for a picture haha. Charles grandmother cradled him like a true mother holding a baby

Wait a minute......Charles grandmother IS the 'Queen Moth' as you call her.
@OfficeSpace2909 Жыл бұрын
@@retroguy9494 Lol! I think this person was referring to Queen Mary as being the “Queen Moth” by mistake. Queen Mary, the consort of George V, was not known for being exceptionally warm with small children. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, was most notably caring and demonstrative in her affections towards King Charles III throughout his entire life until her death.
@retroguy9494 Жыл бұрын
@@OfficeSpace2909 Do you really think so? I've never heard Queen Mary referred to as the Queen Mother before. I believe she was called the 'Dowager Queen.'
@OfficeSpace2909 Жыл бұрын
@@retroguy9494 Yes, she was referred to by that title as “Dowager Queen”. Queen Elizabeth, the consort of King George VI, wanted to differentiate herself from her then living mother in law by assuming the title of “Queen Mother”.

Who is the warmly smiling lady? I wish she was the prince's mother. The Queen and King don't look very relaxed or comfortable, he drumming on the back of the sofa and she looking everywhere but at her child. How they moved him around, not considerate of his sleep. Hope they all got good support.
