What’s the difference between the Long Fish, Natalius and the Wolverine. In terms of wave range, and what type of surfing it’s design to do in each of the boards?

Looks like fun board! Obviously Chris makes great boards but I love how you get it straight. No marketing BS or useless bells and whistles.

I’ve always been curious why the SD shapers keep their keels so far back? They don’t work well at all. The trailing tip of twins should sit at the back edge of your back foot. This particular placement just tracks and goes straight. You’d have to stand on the swallow cut out to really make it work. Doesn’t matter how perfect the shape is, fin placement is crucial.

That is a great question! San Diego fish were designed around surfing long slopey reef and beach breaks. This puts a premium on down the line drive and speed, since there isn’t much of that in the wave itself. If you’re looking to loosen up your SD fish, try switching to a more vertical keel, often called a modern keel, which has a keel outline but is more vertical compared to a classic keel. Examples include FCS Modern Keel, Christenson Keel and Machado Keel. The next step beyond that is ditching the fish all together and switching to a high performance twin fin like the Christenson Lane Splitter or Rawson B2. These boards are more suited to thruster style shredding, and use an “MR” style twin fin, which looks like an enlarged thruster front fin. Way more pivotal and slashy in the turns. Im happy someone pointed that out. It looks like the fin placement of a mini-simmons. Of course this board is not meant to go super vertical and that fin placement doesnt quite favor rail engagement. If anything it wants to go straight. I used the christenson keels for 2 years in a board i rode daily, wings+swallow tail board. Loved them

I mean.. my Christenson 5.8 keel fish absolutely rips the piss out of anything 3-7 foot and goes full roundhouse cutbacks with ease

@@co8539your 5’8” has the fins in the right spot. What we’re talking about is that you’re not supposed to use the same placement on a 6’8”

Is the reverse v the same as “hull displacement”? I’m a bit confused on the concept. I once tried a friend’s “hull displacement” and it was the weirdest board ever.
