Severely destructive 2007 Ballito, KZN (Willard Beach) marine storm is compared to 2017 situation ten years on. Media from then and now is used to form the narrative for this vlog issue. Why do we see this dilapidated house north of Willard beach? Is it too risky to build on sandy cliff close to the beach? Is it known that another house is at risk of collapse? I have included a lot of visuals in my video from all the relevant material that I have collected over the years and I show it to you tied in with my own narrative. I take you on tour with me and I have decided to spend adequate time at every location, so that all can be devoted to history. Therefore, I have made this as a 5 part VLOG series of which this is the first one. In this specific video I take you with me to Willard beach and to the destructed house north of it and I also show you what happened at Santorini’s beach at that time.
I have worked from 2013 onwards to gather material. I took my original photos of 2007 and in 2013 I went to all those spots and I tried to take photos from the same spots so that they can be compared closely with the 2007 situation. For some reason I never got to complete the videos. Recently I realized that we are now at ten years and I really should make a plan. I organized my material and did some further editing and then I realized as well that if I want to do a good job that provides a lot of detail, I would have to do them in about 5 parts. So I did a narrative a day for five days for each one of these videos and now I have edited them and they are ready to be released. It should coincide nicely with the original event. Sadly, I could find very little on that original event. I was not personally here during the storm, I came a week later to see the result.
Me and my family walked on all the Ballito beaches during that time and I took a lot of photos. Many are included in these videos. Combined with narratives, they should help to pin this event to history.
