Hi Heather! I’m a Catholic wife and mother of 4, and I’m a stay at home mom! Very encouraging video, thanks! We try to schedule in family prayer time, too-usually a rosary. Just another way to spend time together while putting the Lord first! PS. I’m one of those people with a cooking channel here on KZbin! If you or anyone reading wants to visit, I have lots of recipe ideas 😊

I’ve been at this for 21 years now. I think the key is routines and the 2 minute rule. If something is going to take 2 minutes or less to do, do it now and don’t put it off and clutter doesn’t build. All that said, when you have littles just give yourself grace and don’t spend so much time worrying about a clean house than loving on your babies. I wasted too much time being “busy” instead of playing with the kids!! As always, Heather, great video that always inspires me!! Thank you!

The other day I did a bunch of stuff outside in 100 degree heat (boy stuff) and I called my husband (who was away at the time) and told him how I felt really bad about all of those times I didn’t have dinner ready bc working physically demanding jobs, getting that uncomfortable, it’s not pleasant and I can see how a tidy home and dinner AND NOT COMPLAINING can make his transition home SO much more comfortable and pleasing and then he can be ready to engage in family life. I do try to always ask myself “what would I want in this scenario?” It’s a good marriage question for almost any situation. 😉

I was told before that there are many GOOD things to do but there are certain things that are ANOINTED by God. Those are the things that prove our obedience and trust in God. I used to feel guilty because I spent so much time cleaning and taking care of our home and not the "good deeds" I THOUGHT I should be doing (like evangelizing or signing up for every committee at church). Now I see that if God wants me to clean our toilet, and I do it with an obedient heart, it is the most anointed thing I can do at that moment. Loved your video today!!!

I definitely enjoy home making even though it can be challenging with kids. I love the scene from the movie mom’s night out when she is in the closet hiding from her house eating chocolate... I think we have all had moments like that.

Is it a coincidence that you posted this video on October 2nd? Today is the anniversary of Opus Dei. St. Josemaría, its founder, preached exactly what you said on your video: we’re called to sanctify our lives through work, whatever work we have, from homemaking to a surgeon to a construction worker... All love to God is showed in the smallest details! Thank you!!! You made me smile!

Heather, I loved this video! Serving our family with love, even when we’re feeling less than loving, is such a gift. In many ways it gets easier when the children grow and have more independence, but there are always challenges. Our attitude is everything. Yes to the meal planning! It’s such a game changer. I meal planned weekly since I got married 24 years ago, but I’m in a particularly busy season of life right now, so started meal planning quarterly instead this year. I make a simple monthly menu plan that I repeat for a quarter, then swap meals out for the next quarter. It has made such a difference.

Heather!! I loved this video so much! ❤️❤️ Thank you for your support of homemaking! I agree with you that serving our family with love is such a gift, Holy, and totally sacrificial! Our vocation as a wife & mother is something that can be very mundane in the day to day operations of our homes. Choosing to serve our family with a joyful heart is the key!

Heather I totally understand what you are talking about. For me at first, Homemaking was hard but as I grow older am learning to love it. Yes it’s important for our husbands to come to a clean home. They tend to be happier when the home is clean. I actually make sure that my daughter bath and food is ready before my husband comes home. My daughter wakes up at 5am too! I guess is the toddler stage. Thanks for sharing!

My grandmother was a home making queen. There are little touches that she did that to this day make me feel cozy and comfortable when I see someone else do them.. like how she made a beautiful bed or had flowers on the dining room table. I have started incorporating them into what I do so my kids get a taste of the love I got from her. Sometimes it is the inspiration I need to make homemaking meaningful and full of love. God bless!

Thanks Heather, I love your videos, but have ONE complaint...I wish you were around when I was a young homemaker while taking care of my children. However, I will soon be a stay at home grandmother, and you are my inspiration. God bless you in your ministry to encourage all of us Catholic women to be faith-filled and joyful in our roles.

This is a video I needed! My landlord just got down on me recently because my house was wrecked when she came over and she totally crushed my spirit. I have been thinking lately that I'm not cut out for homemaking. Mostly because I find myself getting complacent because like you said, it's like groundhogs day. I almost had my mind made up that there's no point because our clutter is so bad that cleaning doesnt make me feel better. I can't have nice things because I have 3 wild boys who are rough on everything. I feel stuck. I'd definitely pay someone to organize my house!

I'm also not a fan of cleaning. I love a clean home but I generally dislike these menial tasks. Something that I found helpful is to completely declutter the home - this makes everything easier because there are fewer things to move and clean, and also it's easier to maintain. I have some friends whose homes look like store showrooms, but I've rejected that. I love St. Francis of Assisi and I find that detaching from things is necessary for holiness and sanity. I don't want things to define me. I don't care for every area being decorated with several items. I keep it minimal but it still keeps the home looking warm and comfortable. I also like meal prepping but not every day. I'll cook 3 times per week and mix and match meals so that it's not the same every day. I value my time and I always insist on having some time for myself. I see that some women give their everything for their husband and kids and then have to convince themselves that this is happiness. I don't think it's selfish if we take time to breathe, enjoy ourselves, improve ourselves by doing things like reading, or going for a mani, pedi or a facial. Time for myself lets me recharge completely and then I can be more joyful about the other things I do. This self care approach also ensures that I don't get resentful because I don't get to do x, y, or z. I don't insist on unreasonable self care or have crazy demands about it, it's simply just a little me time that lets me just be me, fully human. So basically: declutter extremely, meal prep, detach from material things as defining features in life, insist on quality and regular me time. Love you Heather, you're a joy.🥰

Oh my goodness I love being a homemaker, but you’re right, it’s a full time job by itself! My kids who are homeschooled and I have routines. We can keep the house generally tidy, but I do have four rough and tumble boys, so in this season my house is far from perfectly tidy. I really do enjoy having a clean house and a home cooked meal on the table at night!

20K Subscribers🎉 Great tips! Right now I am struggling SO BAD because my husband is in his busy season at work and doesn’t get home until 8 or 9 at night AND the baby is teething an SUPER fussy! I can’t do anything without him crying. If I hold him he is fine but he doesn’t want to go in the baby carrier and I can’t put him down. I can’t wake up before him because he always cries if I wake up (I think he can smell I left the room lol) so frustrating! But I am just trying to ride this wave out because I know it isn’t going to last forever.

I've recently been dwelling on this some subject, I'm recently coming in to a love for homemaking rather than just seeing everything as chore. My recommendation is to read "a mothers rule of life".
