Doing this for the first time this year. I bought advent candles from my local parish at a fundraiser but wasnt sure what to do with them. Looks like i need a 5th white candle and to make a little wreath. Thanks so much! Is thete any special prayers or other traditions that would go along this?

The no meat Friday - was two fold. To remember Jesus death on the cross for our sins - but also fish was an inexpensive food for many years and the money saved was to be given to the poor. Also remember we are not to mention our fasting- we are just to do it. ❤

I had 2 c section 2008 & 2012 then 9 years after in 2020 I had a still birth at 5 months 😢. Then in 2021 I got pregnant and was so afraid for this one I was afraid to lose it but God is good and I was fine. That was my 3rd c section in 2022. I just found out like 3 weeks ago I’m pregnant and it will be my 4th c section and I’m so afraid. 😢 for all my c sections I was great but for the second and third one I was up same day.

Cradle here, why salt? What would the significance of salt specifically be. Why not a different item, sugar, sand, etc..?

That popsicle stick manger is so cute! We do an advent wreath, but we just do weekly readings. It's a Bible verse and prayer that has to do with the week's candle theme. We haven't done Jesse trees every year, but we're doing it this year! O Antiphons is fun, but hard because that week is busy. I prefer to do it as my own devotion. If I do it with the family, I do all eight at once and play the song.

I was raised Baptist. Missing church was a big deal but because of communion. It was because you werent respecting God's holy day of worship and because you missed a homily. The focus in a lot of Protestant churches is the homily.

On Dec. 6, the Feast of St. Nicholas, the children found their shoes filled with chocolate coins, a candy cane, and an orange. (They'd left them in the hall the night before when they went to bed). On Dec. 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we'd have Mexican food for supper and read Tomie DePaola's stories, The Legend of the Poinsettia and Night of Las Posadas. On Dec. 13, the Feast of St. Lucia, the children would take turns greeting the family members in bed with breakfast rolls and hot chocolate, wearing a crown of electric candles (a paper crown could be used, too). Each Sunday in Advent, we'd try to read a new Christmas story.

I'm so glad your Mom said that. I'm terrorified by them. It scares me thinking of other people using them. I don't even want to write the name of the board. My older brother told me when I was younger, never to touch them. I wouldn't anyway. Scary stuff. I had to excuse myself from a friends house another time because they were watching like some ghost hunting show. No way, not for me. I remember leaving thinking I should surround myself with different people.

I don’t agree with everything the Catholic Church teaches. For example I use condoms, and go to yoga for the stretches (but not the chanting) There is nothing in the bible about missing mass on a Sunday or it being a mortal sin. Jesus never said anything about it. I sometimes think it is just something the church invented to control the lay people.

These are wonderful ideas. We add a tradition a year. That way we're only spending money on one new thing. This year we are doing the giving manger. Next year we will do a Jesse tree. My sister and I are drowning in kid toys and since parents and grandparents already give toys we are getting each other's kids Christmas PJs to open on Christmas eve. We reuse our decorations from year to year.

currently ive been going through a hard time in life, i was baptized catholic as a baby but i was never taken to church after that as a non practicing family, but because of these hard times something has been speaking out to me to bring god back into my life, im 24 almost 25 and bought my first rosary and bible. thank you so much for this, I am overjoyed with starting my new journey with god by my side.

Prostatnt people do no realize that when we say the Pope is infallible, we are talking about when he explains the Bible. I converted to Catholism just before I got married, I was 28 my husband was 29, we were both virgins, when we got married. The white dress meant something to me. Today morales are almost non existant, I have never liked Yoga or meditation if its not meditation on the bible. Wigi board scares me, my father said if you're contacting spirits, how do you know if its a good spirit or evil spirit. My father & mother were not Catholic.
