I think what helped Horner quite a lot as well, was that he quickly figured out how to play, use and abuse the media. which in turn, is a genius move again, as that draws in some sponsorships. Which equals more money, Which resulted in them being able to pay some pretty decent technical engineers and designers in the for of Adrian Newey. For about 10 million a year. Basically getting a highly uncompetetive Red Bull car into one of the most dominating ones in just 4 years.

Reminds me of a few years ago, during Covid, I would race against some friends in various games, arcade like NFS to Forza Horizon 4 to Sims like Assetto Corsa. I was sometimes quick enough to keep up, but will consistently lose to my friends, and sometimes get destroyed. After feeling very bad about myself for awhile, I accepted that I'm just not a good driver. Another friend later hosted "Team Principle Simulator". It was basically Dungeons and Dragons, with him as the Dungeon Master, and the Dungeon being F1. We would all manage teams, with me managing Renault. Timezones and studies meant I couldn't be present to make live strategic calls for my team. But I always give him a long list of different strategies based on scenarios that I anticipated, and that was when the entire DnD party forgot that I was the slowest driver among them.

Toto Wolf's career as a racing driver is kind of funny, because for the Dubai 24h hours he raced sponsored by Red Bull...

Under Horner, redbull have shown consistent performance, and constant dramatic improvement. His team has also seen a lot of championship success both with Vettle and now Verstappen with the latter being the dominator of F1 today. The team is continuing to break more and more records, and will likely continue to do so for many years to come.

Josh, just listened to the Detail Podcast. Love the enthusiasm, but one big snafu. Liam is the first formula 1 driver not in 40 years as you said, but since Brendan Hartley. Mate…

Driving a racing car and managing a racing team are obviously very different skill sets. Jackie Stewart and Alain Prost both tried running their own Formula 1 teams, and well....the results speak for themselves.

If we were all so lucky. It's been funny to see all the ballyhoo about if Horner would leave RB for Ferrari this season. Not a chance. Horner jumping to the Scuderia is as likely as Toto doing it. He has no reason to at all. He's got both Max and Newey and he knows he's probably the only guy that Marko won't sack, especially now that the RB19 is an all-time great. Aside from that, the best thing that could've happened for Horner was those eight years spent chasing Mercedes. It wasn't that RB was awful. They were just where Merc is now. He's been there the whole way and Ferrari has more than enough issues that it makes no logical sense for him to switch. When Horner decides to pack it in, my guess it will be for retirement - nothing else. And he's earned it.

That meme of "Christian Horner, failed to qualify" lives in my head rent free. Imagine if Helmut Marko saw it

Not even the only open-wheel career Montoya ended; he outclassed Craig Lowndes so decisively as his teammate in 1997, Lowndes decided to return to Australia and become a Supercars legend instead... 😜

Any video on Horner looking back at his days in the cockpit?

Seems it’s difficult as most of the time he was so far back from the leaders that footage of him is almost impossible to find!

To take the old Stewart team, and a bag of money ofc, it's F1, to 4 Championships, then maintain a decent team who could pick up wins with a shit Renault engine through the Merc/Lewis domination years and come back and put 3 plus championships book ending that spell, and his part in bringing Verstappen through to be the driver he is, giving him the chances so early in F1, then in the main team and maintaining that relationship so strongly. He deserves so much credit.

So what you're saying is. Latiffi could be a team owner and be more sucsefull then merc and redbull?
