I've come to prefer when -Christian- white nationalists say the quiet parts outloud. It lightens the (sometimes infuriating) burden of doubt experienced by people of color who try to explain the institutional and day-to-day hostilities we face. There is no way to fix a thing that the average American/Canadian doesn't acknowledge, let alone understand. At least we're ALL hearing this loud and clear. Don't think too much about these particular...individuals. There is much joy to be found in the prospect of a whole new year (and I would imagine in your faith, as well). Amazing that so-called "Christian" Nationalists never quote Jesus or the New Testament. Jesus heals a Syro-Phoenecian woman, praises a Roman centurion for his faith, and gives the parable of the Good Samaritan. Paul says that in the Christ renewed self "there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all." (Col 3:11).

@autumn7157Күн бұрын
@@billfarley9167 While I grew up Episcopal, I don’t identify with the faith any longer, but I was always under the impression that the “fear of God” was more like the fear of disappointing your parents and the dread of justified punishment. (Obviously, Yaweh throws the occasional temper tantrum like sny other god, but that’s not supposed to be the main takeaway). So more like the fear of failing to live up to the standards of the figure who’s opinion you value most. So very different than the fear of a monster out to get you, if that makes any sense? So ‘Fearing the Father’ is not the same as seeing a fellow Child of God as a threat to yourself. I figure that’s the whole point of Jesus talking about loving they neighbors; love the creations of God, and the family he built on earth for you. Like, didn’t God make Eve so Adam wouldn’t be alone when animal companions wasn’t enough? It’s been a while.

The book of Jonah is actually about that, God sent the prophet to Nineveh and he tried to run from the duty God gave him to save the people of Nineveh because he hated the Assyrians, but God made sure he arrived and preached to them. After he gave the message he waited for the judgement of God to destroy the city but when it did not come he became angry at the God (symbolized by discourse with God when the vine that shaded him died.) - Also the Torah, the five books written by Moses, we have commands that say the Israelites are to treat any foreigner as if they were an Israelite, Leviticus 19:34 directly tells the Israelites to treat the Foreigner as they treat themselves. "The stranger who resides with you shall be to as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God." Lev 19:34 NASB

I was brought up in the Catholic faith. I went to a Catholic school through 5th grade. The Sisters that taught us were from all over the world and would teach us inclusiveness, tolerance etiquette and humility towards everybody. If we shamed someone for any reason (being poor, being from a different country, being fat, being a different color) we got disciplined. The problem for me at the time, while I was being taught these things at school, when my uncles would visit every weekend the racist slurs and rhetoric had no bounds and the children were exposed to it. Talk about being confused. I was supposed to be one thing at school and another all of the rest of the time. It wasn't just my race it was all of them at the time. There were lines. We could be friends at school but no further. We had people that were not Catholic that also went to the school. I did not learn until much later that the reason they were there was to avoid the abundance of diversity that was at the public school. Very confusing for a child.
@brettbarager9101Күн бұрын
How unfortunate that the Catholic Church didn't teach inclusiveness and tolerance as an organization. Just as the Indigenous Peoples how "tolerant and inclusive" the Church was! @@brettbarager9101 I understand about the original natives. I don't believe Jesus ever said it's ok to deceive and conquer natives or it's ok to own slaves. Thank God there have always been a few that see through this. I pray more could be done. My experience with my particular Catholic school was as I said, confusing to me. I think some of the message stuck with me.

Never read the Bible eh? The Bible says there will never be peace, until Jesus Christ , the Prince of Peace, returns to rule the world. If you read the gospels you would see that Jesus put out some " mean tweets" in His day. He called some people a "brood of vipers" and " sons of hell". He also told people that they needed to repent . And He said this " I have not come to bring peace, but a sword...!" What He meant by that is that people will be divided because of Him, they will be divided over the truth ,in all matters, because Jesus is the TRUTH. This is the division right now...on the one side you have those for whom FAITH FAMILY and FREEDOM are important , Donald Trump represents that no matter what he himself is. On the other side you have those who's thinking comes from a blending of Marxism and Christianity ,which always rears it's ugly head as a preoccupation with "social justice " issues Those are all people like Rev. Ed who opposes Trump and MAGA, in other words he opposes FAITH FAMILY an FREEDOM. Just so you know, Rev. Ed is wearing a priests garb, but is actually diametrically opposed to everything God said in the Bible.

When my son was in pre-school I picked him up one day after school. From the back seat he said “we made a club on the playground today mommy”. Then he said “Bobby said no brown kids are allowed in the club.” I almost had an accident, but luckily I pulled the car over. I turned around and asked him to repeat what he just said, almost not believing my ears. He did, and after collecting myself - I explained that this was not acceptable to God because He made all the children and loves everyone the same. I went to school the next day and explained what happened to the teacher (a Christian pre-school). She immediately brought out a box of skin colored crayons and pictures of children. She taught the children that God loves you no matter your skin color and we should treat everyone like they were created by God, because they were. It’s sad that a 4 year old boy in the class was already being taught to ostracize brown children at home. (My son is half latin, but looks white so the boy didn’t know he was “brown” too!).

The Israelites, Amelekites, Midianites, Philistines, and Samaritans were all ethnically indistinct from one another and all differences leveraged between them were more cultural and sectarian.

I also saw a clip where someone said explicitly that Christian nationalism is white nationalism. As an atheist the connection with Christianity is an irrelevance to me but I end up in the same place. As one human being to another I see no justification for racism. But ii do see fear. I see fear in those who would build barriers whether that be border walls or economic or legal limitations. As a counsellor said to me recently in another context when we are under pressure we don't run to what is safe we run to what is familiar. Racism is a response not drawn from logic so logic cannot cure it. But if we address the fear maybe we will do some good.

Those who hate others while naming themselves Christian seem to always find justification in the Old Testament. Christ came to evolve believers beyond the Old Testament religion, bringing a new paradigm of love and peace to everything God created. Those who quote the Bible to excuse their hatred and vengeance try to deny Jesus' establishemnt of the New Covenant.
