7:45 Asking ourselves why we worry. We can be slaves to fear, or servants to God. Amen! Thank you Reverend Ed!

For me it’s making decisions based upon fear instead of love. For years I made decisions based on fear. Now I know that fear is what holds us back from being the persons we are called by God to be. That’s why people vote for Trumps. They fear change. They fear people who are different. To repent means to change but fear prevents change so they can’t change and will remain stuck unless they can put their trust in Gods love.

Failed at life.. 😂 I really liked that. I'm a 100% p&t sc disabled veteran, I lost my apartment nearly three years ago. I've been living in a tent since then, low 20's last night with colder weather coming in. Yeah, I'm a failure, and serving this nation is what sent me down this path.

I am practicing, albeit in rough form right now, Jesus’s words, “The kingdom of heaven is within you.” It’s the individual who is a member (like an arm, hand, foot, etc) of the church. Still part of a larger body. Sometimes, setting oneself apart is refreshing and allows for regrouping. Still part of the church. It’s good and right to meet together, but not at the loss of that kingdom within. He told the religious leaders, “You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let anyone enter who is trying to...” My rough paraphrase of Matthew 23:13 When Jesus calls a person, he calls them to something better than the outward appearance. Greater than traditions, and sometimes something that requires a lot of independence of thought. This, I am finding challenging…but necessary for me.

I had a desperate conversation with my maga dad two nights ago. This man has consistently demonstrated through my 46+ years a selfless devotion to our family, a patient and kind spirit always willing to help anyone out who was in need. He was affectionate, generous, warm, and funny, and most importantly, he led by example in teaching us the tenets and importance of our faith. I pleaded with him to hear me, to search his heart and seek guidance through prayer. I raised scriptures and told him I was devastated and so confused by his support for Trump. I begged him not to harden his heart. But he would not be moved. He told me that there was nothing Trump or anyone could do that would change his opinion. I asked him to prayerfully consider, if that was truly the case, then who his actual god was. It all went absolutely nowhere.

As a result of my Evangelical upbringing, I became an atheist in my late teens, then, shortly, an antitheist. I softened in my (much) later years, and came to allow the concept of higher power. After all, the universe is much more expansive than we can begin to comprehend, so it seems to me that anything imaginable is possible somewhere in that vastness. What's UNimaginable to so many people is the finality of existence. I'm not a part of any movement. I know what I believe, but I also know that 'belief' and a buck can still buy a bean burrito. Hypocrisy is detestable to me - and half of American voters seem to be drawn to that. The 'Christianity' they hammer us with is the opposite of what I read in the teachings of Christ. They are directly responsible for much of the vitriol Christian Nationalists are now receiving. I could go on and on, but then again, what I 'believe' doesn't scratch the surface of actual reality. It's not about me, is it?

Even if God is judging America, what does that even mean for us? It doesn't mean that we need to take the country by force. Jesus was clearly about convincing people to do what is right. Not forcing them to do what is right. If the world ends today, what does it even matter? Why is anybody even concerned about that? If they are doing the right thing they have nothing to worry about. If the world is going to end its because God decides it's going to end. I don't understand the Christian idea of trying to stop the end of the world. The end of the world is not something to worry about.

Trump represents the stupidity of most church-going Christians: sit in a pew, watch a ceremony, and go home convinced they are on the road to heaven. Trump admitted to watching television, eating hamburgers, and most of his political talk was incoherent and really not political. Jesus was all about love, charity, and acceptance. Catholics leave charity to their church and do not feel the need to do charity work. After leaving Catholicism, the first thing my Lutheran minister recommended is to sign up for the church's charity group!!! Trump followers do nothing but cheer their leader and do not question anything!

I've been a Christian, and it's my observation that if the church were emptied of *all* sinners, there would be nobody, including pastors, in the church. *ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.* That is why we(as in "everybody") need Jesus.

Amen. Good one. And thank you for talking me down off the ledge over the antichrist thing. I had lost perspective. Your "OK, Trump's the antichrist. So what?" Brought me back. I was near panic because it seemed no one I knew could see. You explained how just keeping doing Christianity and letting God sort things out will work in our best interests. Thnks again for your calm, rational advice.

In line with both the Widow's Mite story in the NT and the OT instructions to cast out one's eye or cut off one's hand if either is the cause of one's sin, shouldn't the same core concept apply to arbitrarily granted social privilege and material wealth for which has value only by consensus or economic fiat ("transacting parties agree to use Currency as a medium of exchange, therefore that currency has value")?

And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided? So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (Luk 12:13-21)

There is a fantastic old Genesis song called "One For The Vine" that tells this exact story of a man without hope who seeks to make things better for everyone but then finds himself in the position of those he sought to be free from. You might enjoy listening to it and reading the lyrics. Thank you

Seems pretty straightforward to me: if you choose to hurt others you're only hurting yourself. Heck even God said that he was creating in his own image, so if you take that and run with it, we're all just manifestations of God. So what's the deal with all of this separation? We're all one. ❤

Please, sir. Stop feeding people with dispair, bitterness and disappointment. As a believer, we have to a accect what the Lord has allowed. President Trump win LEGALY and with HONESTY. Free as children of the Living God, without hatred, bitterness, with love and faith that the Lord make impossible things possible. It is our prayers that the Lord will honor. Keeping talking and steering our disappointing is to be slave, is keeping our flesh guided us unstead to be fruitful and help our country to be better. Every day His mercy are new. People of faith let's be together and pray without partiality. The Lord can and will uses President Trump for greatest thing, let's confess good things four our Lord, for our country, for us. What "evil" does the singer think Trump will rescue is from? High taxes for rich people? Migrants who are working in the fields? Health care? Or does she mean wars (don't count on it), abortion (don't count on it), and transgender people? I wish Trump supporters would say specifically what they think he'll do for us.

A spiritually healthy ego includes the awareness of our oneness and apparently, American Christianity has by and large been hijacked by selfish egos. Power and wealth are their rewards. But spiritually, they lose.

I think the people with the most privilege can't see their way to kindness and generosity cause the way is blocked by all the "stuff" they have. I used to work in a small company that had basically two tiers, clerical staff and supervisors. Whenever it came time to collect for a gift etc, it was always the clerical staff that gave freely and without a problem. The supervisors made at least double what the clerical staff made and getting cash out of them was like trying to get blood from a stone.

The soft Jesus is not a weak Jesus. I don't believe the soft Jesus is not a corrective Jesus either. I've seen Him correct me in a time and way that did not shame and did not laud it over me. The soft Jesus is a patient Jesus. He is a gentle Jesus. He is a compassionate Jesus. He is FULL of mercy. He is the still small voice that one has to attune one's ears to hear and eyes to see and heart to receive. He won't push Himself on anyone. He is a very sensitive Jesus and He is the one that wept. He listens for the hurting and the least of these. He waits for the wayward one in all of us, hopefully, expectantly. His influence is by healing and building up. He is the Jesus who didn't resist the Father's will and voluntarily went to the cross though He didn't want to go. He prayed for others and He prayed for us when His day of crucifixion had come.
