I understand where you’re coming from but you’re not getting the lyrics and full story.Kendrick was expressing that god was talking to him saying he was being similar to Lucifer(the angel of music) Kendrick is not talking to Lucifer. God is talking to Kendrick/lucifier. God affirms Lucifer’s musicality, but chastises him for how his influence has played out in the lives of musical superstars, and is now playing out in Kendrick’s life, constantly tempting him with pride, ego, violence, lust, and war. Kendrick is not a perfect human being like you and me. He sins like us. He acknowledges it but tries to do better. Moral of the story, Kendrick is talking about how God’s casting Kendrick’s down referring to his hardships, internal struggles, reality checks, moral failings, or other consequences of his pride and ego. However, unlike Lucifer, God here says he did this for Kendrick’s transformation and rehabilitation. To debunk your other complaint with “I rewrote the devil’s story just to take our power back.” he means God is speaking to Kendrick/the angel Lucifer. In his past lives (above) Kendrick was manipulative and used music as a tool to gain power and earthly pleases. He “rewrites” the devil’s story and divorces music from the negativity associated with Lucifer. As Kendrick/Lucifer, the artist promises to use music to inspire, bring understanding, and cause people to live in harmony instead of manipulating them for evil. In doing so, Kendrick takes the power of music back. He essentially kills the Devil by divorcing music from evil. Say what you want but He is a Christian and is doing good.

I think the point of this song was to show he’s trying to escape the loop and wants to be with God and so he’s talking to God but God is telling him you got it all wrong you’re still full of pride anger and war and to be understanding of everyone bc “every individual is only a version of you” to me that means everyone starts the same but as we go in life we go on a separate paths and may end different but to remember we are all the same but also we have to stay open minded to what it could mean since I am not the author of the song and in the end God is the one to praise and we should never favor someone’s message over word of God

9:00 would you condemn Dante for writing the divine comedy? Would you condemn Milton for writing paradise lost? Would you blame Michelangelo for blending concepts from Greek mythology in Christian paintings I.e. putting the river styx in the Sistine chapel. Being Christian gives people a superiority complex where they feel like they can judge other beliefs if they don't agree with them. Kendrick is expressing his conciesnes in this song and Lucifer represents the dark side of his conciesnes and God represents the white side of his conciesnes. He's using these characters as archetypes to express he's conciesnes. All of us as people are like this, we have a dark and white side to us and a true artist will express this in their art because they're trying to make us aware of how our own minds work and once we become aware we can take control of the mind which is what he means in the last line. These are concepts and ideas he's using to explain something bigger and he even said this in the song, it's like Yin and Yang.

I don’t know man. Comparing the want/need to grow and learn how to draw closer to God in the gifts he’s given us, and to be dead to ourselves and let it be Jesus who lives through us, the Holy Spirit; to compare that to satan telling Adam and Eve that they can “be God” is very different. Kendrick is wanting to learn to Love more and follow in the ways Jesus teaches us to Live and wants to access that which is the Holy Spirit in us. Now even if his views have reflected differently in the past, or even if it’s SEEMED to be different in the past, that doesn’t mean change can’t come in a man. That’s biblical in itself. Kendrick is quite literally pointing out the ways the devil takes hold of musicians, and is trying to verbalize the battle that people go through in flesh. He’s also talking about how he can overcome it and the importance of it. He may not be perfect, but God has always used the imperfect. And I’m not saying he needs to be worshipped by any means, but we shouldn’t invalidate a man who is just like you or me in trying to bring God, Love, and growth towards that in the world. Watch some of his interview and stuff man. He’s on his journey and we should pray that he continues in growth towards God.

Kendrick is saying he was banished as evil multiple times and is trying to get it right for his father this time. Rewriting the devil’s story is him (the devil and music maestro) trying to resist the temptation and get this lifetime right, and his discussion is with God asking his father how he’s doing this time. He’s trying to rise above sin, rise above conflict, but he does love war. It’s a fascinating take on the allure and power of music and fame, and what happens to those that fully succumb to the temptation and power that come with it. Or that’s what I, also as a Christian, heard.
