I was a manager for a shop in the mall years ago. I never worked Sundays because my gf at the time and I always went to church and taught sunday school. One of my employees who ran the store every Sunday needed the day off. What did I do? I planned ahead, got my class covered (my gf was out of town for a bit) and told her her I'd work it for her because I TAKE CARE OF MY PEOPLE! Only thing that sucked was a couple buddies and I partied the night before and I worked the entire shift hungover. Thankfully a friend running a shop across from me did the same and shared her big ass bag of pretzels with me to help keep it down. Oh to be 21 again.

I once worked at a Dunkin Donuts largely as a closer. It was a bit of a revolving door location with new hires almost monthly I think besides the store manager I was the only employee on closing that consistently worked there for the 15 months I was there. They were generally very accommodating giving me time off for a wedding I was going to and my little brother’s high school graduation. Of course at the time I didn’t have much better to do besides some college work that I was efficient in getting done but after a while I needed to leave because they couldn’t accommodate my requests for less days during college semesters. That was probably the best job I’ve had yet in term of how nice they were about accommodating special life events. It is sad that isn’t a universal experience
