These young men are already in the truth! They were not blinded to believe that God will punish people in hell forever those that are not entering the in the narrow road that leads to life. (Mat. 7:14) They believe what the bible said at John 3:16 that those who will not believe in Jesus will only perish, meaning, they will cease to exist. Romans: 6:23 also said that the wages of sin is death, NOT ETERNAL LIFE IN HELL TORMENTED; and they believe Romans 6:7 that says "THOSE WHO DIED ARE ACQUITTED OF THEIR SINS." And this is a crystal clear doctrine in the bible regarding that only few will have eternal life while many will perish or cease to exist if they will not align their lives with God's truth and way of life. Fiery Hell is a satan-inspired belief that makes God a billion trillion... times evil than the devil, a very horrendous and blasphemous belief indeed! How appropriate 1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:15-16‬(NLT) “Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Evan, you are so right - so many people say 'we believe', and they rarely, if ever, say 'I believe'. This is especially true of people who seem to think that belonging to a church makes them Christians, such as Roman Catholics. A Roman Catholic acquaintance of mine asked me once what my church's teaching was on a certain matter. I tried to explain to her that the fellowship I attended did not teach me with any authority at all, but that my teaching comes from the bible, not my church. It amazes me that people are willing to be told by others what the bible teaches, and are happy to accept their view as authoratative without question. My dear old mother, if asked what her religion is, will say she is catholic, not because she has any faith one way or another, but simply because she was told as a child that she was a catholic. I find this so sad and frustrating. So many people will likewise accept even their own identity as prescribed by others.

When I tell people about my faith, I try my hardest to not say things like ‘’I believe/Christians believe’’ I usually try to say things like ‘’my bible tells me/Jesus said’’. That way if people have a problem with what they are hearing, it’s not between me and them. It’s between them and God and as we all know, Gods word cannot be beat.

Ephesians 2:8-9 single handedly debunks every false doctrine. How do you know a religion was started by humans? They say "We earn our place in paradise". How do you know it's not created by humans? "There's nothing we can do to earn paradise". Most people don't like the idea of a free lunch. If someone does something for you that you could have done yourself, it feels awkward or embarrassing. So anything we make up is going to be centered around us earning it, making it, deserving it.

Definitely respect this conversation... Too many people post the clips of videos where "they win the most," where one side feels that they've dominated the other side... here, both sides did a good job actually listening to eachother. No insults, no talking down to eachother with accusations that the other side must be dishonest or ignorant... but a comparison of ideas and questions and then LISTENING to how the other sides responded to those questions. That's a good christian conversation. The key points focused on here seemed to be Sola Fide and Sola Gratia. So 1- JWs believe a person who professes faith should LIVE by their faith. If you declare Christ as lord... you should do what he says. "Repentance" isn't just "saying: 'I'm sorry.'" But actively turning away from sin and obeying God. 2- The Sola Fide perspective seems to see works as the antithesis of faith, rather than the result of faith. That FOLLOWING Jesus must mean you are not sufficiently relying on faith alone to get you your salvation. And that salvation comes from our faith alone. But, while that sounds nice from a certain perspective... salvation doesn't "come from our faith" at all, any more than it "comes from our works." It doesn't come "from us" at all... that's why we refer to χάριν as an "undeserved kindness." Because it's not something "we deserve." It's something "he gives us that we specifically don't deserve, not because he needs to for any reason at all... but because he chooses to." That goes back to the "I have 3 minutes to live, what can I do to ensure everlasting life?" question... and what they want to hear is "make a declaration of faith and accepting Jesus as your savior." ... but that reduces a gift "from God" to a prize "you claim if you say some magic words, after which God is obligated to serve you, and never again has the right to judge you." ... and that's not grace/undeserved kindness. That's still a work-based salvation, even if the work is exclusively "making a statement." That's why JWs don't say there's some specific thing "You can do." The criminal next to Jesus wasn't saved "Because of what he said." He was forgiven and assured eternal life because Jesus judged that he had a true change of heart. That seems to be what Jesus is looking for. Of course, it's never too late to have an actual change of heart and actually accept the gift God offers through Jesus and therefore be freely forgiven of your transgressions. But no, there's no special words a person with a truly unrepentant heart and no interest in actually obeying God can say at the end of his life to circumvent God's (merciful) judgment. God has given all judgment to Jesus, who will know the truth (regardless of what you did or didn't say). ... On top of that, we run into another issue. This conversation frequently centers around "Jesus accepting the just sentence, and suffering the full consequences in our place." And... I would agree with that. But they're attempting to suggest that God is required to either send people to eternal heaven or eternal hell upon death... and that the wages of sin is everlasting indescribable torment. I read Romans 6:23 as "the wages of sin is death." Jesus DID suffer the full consequence of sin: Death. His resurrection on the 3rd day after his death demonstrates that the price he paid was not "eternal torment."

I think the man making the video is missing the point, JW's do not believe that works will save us. It is our faith in God and the ransom sacrifice. However, our faith as James and Paul show, have to be backed up by works, otherwise our faith in God means nothing. Sorry to have to break it to you that way, that is what the Bible teaches us. If you read Hebrews chapter 11 Paul shows that people like Abraham and Noah, acted in faith but were backed up by their works...........! I think that you do a bit of cherry picking here, you criticise JW's for thinking that we earn salvation which is incorrect. When it comes to salvation, there are many scriptures you should take as a whole, and not just focus on one scripture as you seem to be doing . For example, the Bible clearly tells us that: * The one doing the will of God is the one who will be saved 1 John * The one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved Matthew 24 And you might want to consider this ...Talking about how Noah and his family were saved, Peter says .........Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter As you can see there are a number of steps for salvation, all based on faith. It is not enough just to say "I believe" or I accept Jesus as my savour ! Consider this form Hebrews 10: 26 For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left. So if were were to practice sin after wilfully after having received this knowledge of truth from Gods word then there is NO LONGER any sacrifice for sins left, so yes WORKS do come into it.........Faith & works go hand in hand, you CANNOT have one without the other !

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness but I have read the bible before and I have a question....Who did Jesus, as a Jew, worship? The reason I ask this is because from what I understand a Christian is suppose to follow Jesus' footsteps, in other words, they must imitate Christ. The only thing left to add is that, by the thief asking "Jesus to remember him (the thief) when he (Jesus) is in his kingdom" The thief BELIEVED and CONFESSED PUBLICLY that Jesus was TRULY Lord, savior and King. Therefore, the thief by being nailed physically to his cross, there was NOTHING HE COULD DO TO "EARN HIS SALVATION" BUT BELIEF IN THE LORD JESUSCHRIST and therefore, he became saved..... That could be understood in the context of John 3:16. Only those who exercise faith in Jesus get to live forever on earth. All the dead, including Abraham, Moses and others will have to put faith in Jesus' ransom sacrifice. That is why, they along with all the dead, will be resurrected and given the opportunity to qualify for everlasting life (Acts 24;15). namely, learn about Jesus and exercise faith in his sacrifice. That thief will next open his eyes and find himself on an earth being changed into a paradise by God's Government (Revelation 21:3,4). That thief too gets an opportunity. He logically couldn't put faith in Jesus' sacrifice as he died before Jesus had completed his mission. Those who qualify have this hope as God purposed. Psalm 37:29 The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it.

I loved that point as well, and had reflected on it many times over the years. The Jehovah’s Witness would respond to to your comment to say that the thief didn’t have enough time on earth to know Jehovah, therefore Jesus was simply expressing that the thief would have an OPPORTUNITY to be be resurrected in paradise on earth and at that time to learn about Jehovah. And if he obeys the JW teachings, believes they are the one and only true religion, and turns in his monthly time to remain an active JW, then at that point he has the CHANCE of eternal life continued on paradise earth. A chance, not a GUARANTEE in their eyes. I know exactly how they would respond because I was once out there witnessing as a JW Pioneer for almost 25 years (cart witnessing as well). Unfortunately, what many JWs are raised to believe from the Watchtower and additional study materials is exactly what they believe, and there’s really not much turning back for them. I see these are two very young men, so more than likely they have been indoctrinated from infancy into the organization. That’s all they know. Sweet young men, simply - “Indoctrinated”. 🥲

Yeshua Messiah I disagree. 17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. (James 2:17) God requires our best. Praying to God is a work. Reading his word is a work. How else are you supposed to build that faith without the knowledge from the Bible, as well as the obedience to listen to Christ’s teachings about repentance, loving God and our neighbor. Those are all apart of your faith, they build up your faith. They are connected. It’s exactly how james said it “You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;” (James 2:22)

The guy on the right is so humble and soft spoken, impressive...seems very genuine. We are saved by faith and faith alone. When we live for Christ, He gives us the desires of our heart and those will be the desire to serve others so that is where the works come into play. You will want to do good works. I believe some people misinterpret that verse, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Not that He will give you everything you want but that He will put godly desires in your heart. Mark Twain is very correct in saying "It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled." And how aptly the bible says at 2 Chor 4:4 that Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.(NLT) They were blinded to believe that God will punish people in hell forever those that are not entering the in the narrow road that leads to life. And this is a crystal clear doctrine in the bible regarding that only few will have eternal life while many will perish or cease to exist if they will not align their lives with God's truth and way of life. Fiery Hell is a satan-inspired belief that makes God a billion trillion... times evil than the devil, a very horrendous and blasphemous belief indeed! How appropriate 1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:15-16‬(NLT) “Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:15-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Yeah, we understand this belief of hell that this is a false teachings since God is a loving God, a merciful God, and justice are His ways. This verse tells us that if God, even only by forgetting the love we have shown to him, will make Him unrighteous! Jehova witnesses preach that Jesus and God are not equal, therefore they are not Christian. Jesus performed nature miracles that can only be attributed to God (walking on water, turning water into wine, feeding thousands, etc.). I find it frustrating when dialoguing with JW's when they will admit, just as the man with the red top did, that it's faith + works for a JW to be justified but when you point out that scripture explicitly says otherwise, they'll just nod and agree without being able to see a very clear and obvious contradiction. A heart that is continually transformed into the likeness of GOD will reveal itself through works that align with the will of God. That is why James identified faith without works as dead. Jesus warned, 'every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut-down and thrown into the fire'(Mat 7.19). Those who are willfully disobedient to continue in their sinful ways will prove to have a faith that is stagnant and even dead. Paul wrote, that many will be surprised to learn that their faith was never real to begin with, and as Jesus Himself prophesied it, these ones will be turned away from Him onto death(1 Cor 6.9-10, Mat 7.23). Good works are born from good faith, whereas a life absent of good works is an indicator of dead faith.

What he says is that the Father(Jehovah) is the only one true God(John 17:3) and Jehovah is his Father and God(John 20:17). Acts 2:36 also clearly says "Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for a certainty that God made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you executed on a stake.” In KJV "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." He is really Lord, a created lord but that does mean he is the God Almighty or part of the godhead. At Matthew 28:18 Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth." (but this does not mean that the Godhead is included) In John 3:35 "The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand." Acts 5:31"God exalted this one as Chief Agent and Savior to his right hand, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins." These verses said that Jesus was exalted which clearly means he is not God because God cannot be exalted. If Jesus is God, then the bible should tell us that after his resurrection he was restored to his position as God and standing at the right hand of God. Another verse that will support our belief is 1Chor. 15:27-29, it reads "For he must rule as king until God has put all enemies under his feet. 26 And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing. 27 For God “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that this does not include the One who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone. Read again verse 28 and take note that Jesus will subject himself to Jehovah God, so that God may be all in all. It’s very true that Jesus Christ is a mighty God but not the Almighty.

I _thought_ I recognized the "Way Of the Master"/Ray Comfort style of preaching! I love it. I am such a big believer in this type of evangelism. Not only is it biblical, it's also effective, as it gets to the heart of the matter when it comes to faith and the afterlife: our sin versus God's holiness, and the only remedy to that problem: Jesus Christ and his sinless, selfless sacrifice on the cross for our sins. What a wonderful witnessing encounter. You did a great job. Question for you. First off, I haven't been out since before the pandemic began, and I am currently unvaccinated; not because I don't care about the health and well-being of others, but because I have concerns regarding the rare but serious side effects that could accompany getting the vaccine: anaphylaxis, paralysis, blurred vision, or ringing in the ears, and nobody knows as to whether these side effects are temporary or permanent. And if something happens to me, I don't have the financial resources to get medical help, so I just stay home. Because of this, and because I'm unvaccinated, I am unable to go out and witness to people, therefore, I don't get the opportunity to flex my evangelism muscles. Here's my question for you: _How do I keep my nerves from getting the best of me when witnessing one-on-one?_ The reason I ask is this. Last year, a few days before Christmas, a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses (both men), came knocking on my door one morning. For months, I had hoped (and practiced in my mind) what I would say should a Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormon come to my door. After a few minutes of listening to what they had to say, I smiled and went into my best Ray Comfort evangelism presentation (minus the New Zealand accent, of course! 😄), and asked them if they would consider themselves to be a "good person". Their response was, "We're not perfect"; basically, what the dark haired guy in your video said. I agreed that we're all imperfect, and then began to take them through the 10 Commandments: how many lies have you told, every stolen something, ever used God's name in vain, etc.) Oh, my goodness, these guys could not have been more evasive if they _tried!_ Part of their training, perhaps? Though one was a little more willing to answer than the other one was, they both kept reverting back to the, "Were not perfect" statement. I don't know what happened to me, but my nerves really got the best of me as I tried, in vain it seems, to present the gospel to them the way I had seen and learned so many years ago by watching Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron present it, the way you did: in love, with gentleness and with respect. Now, just so you won't misunderstand when I tell you that my nerves got the best of me…that's not to say I got angry. I didn't. I was friendly and kind, because I genuinely cared about these two men (my fellow human beings), but as I continued to talk with them, I suddenly noticed that my voice unintentionally went up a few octaves, and it sounded as though I were on the edge of bursting out in tears, which really took me by surprise. I'm not sure, but I believe that even _they_ thought I was on the verge of tears, which wasn't the case at all. Something else I noticed as I continued to share the gospel with them (although imperfectly), was that it felt as though I were on the edge of hyperventilating, which I rarely do, but that's how it felt. The conversation ended when they politely said they had to go, and I sent them on their way with a smile. Once I closed the door, I began to beat myself up, thinking about how much I had blown it, this evangelism encounter, but then I thought to myself: 1. No good work I might do (including evangelism) is about me. Whatever good thing I might do is about Jesus, and what _he_ did for me. 2. Though I had failed at effectively sharing the gospel with these two men, at least I know I tried. Perhaps that day, not only did I leave "a stone in their shoe" (their mortality and what _really_ happens to a person after they die), but maybe, just maybe, I also planted a seed of faith in their hearts, but I won't know for sure this side of heaven. 3. Blowing it (the evangelism encounter), really, would have been me closing the door in these men's faces once I realized they were Jehovah's Witnesses, and not even trying to share the gospel with them. @@777Tralfaz777 According to biblical teachings I've listened to on KZbin and podcasts, as well as articles I've read, Jehovah's Witnesses do believe, in part, that salvation is obtained through one's good works, which contradicts what the Bible says, that eternal life is a free gift from God, and that we can do absolutely nothing to earn it. The reason we can't earn salvation, is because we've broken the Law, God's Law, the 10 Commandments, the very standard by which God will someday judge all unrepentant, self-righteous sinners, as I once was before God saved me from my just punishment in hell because of my sins against him. Christians do good works not to get saved, but because we _are_ saved, and that good works simply demonstrate that we _have_ faith in God. But it's not just Jehovah's Witnesses who believe in the unbiblical teaching of salvation through good works. Many, if not all religions teach that salvation can only be merited through a person's good works, and that's just not true. Salvation is a free gift from God and God alone. As a (secular) scholar, I found this interaction rather interesting. This is a misunderstanding of what Paul and James mean by "Faith" It was previously thought James is responding to Paul, specifically Galatians. More recent scholars, however, have called this reading of James into question. When Paul uses the term “faith,” he means something relational by it: faith in Christ means trusting that Christ’s death and resurrection can restore a person to a right standing before God. This, for Paul, comes “apart from the works of the law,” meaning that one does not have to do the works prescribed by the Jewish law in order to trust Christ. One does not need to observe the Sabbath, keep kosher food laws, circumcise baby boys, and so on. James means something different, however, by both “faith” and “works.” For him, faith does not have the relational meaning of “trusting someone.” It refers to intellectual assent to a proposition: “The demons believe God is one, and they shudder” (James 2:19). In other words, even demons know that there is only one real God, but it doesn’t do them any good. This decidedly does not mean that the demons trust God: they simply have the intellectual knowledge of his existence. Faith - intellectual assent to the propositions of the Christian religion - will not save anyone, according to James. Even more striking, when James speaks of “works” he is not referring to actions required by the Jewish law: Sabbath observance, kosher food requirements, etc.. He is clearly talking about good deeds: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked (the two examples he gives), and so on. For James, an intellectual assent to Christianity that does not manifest itself in how one lives is of no use. It can’t save a soul. And so the book of James may seem to be contradicting Paul, but it is not really contradicting him. What is one to make of that? Actually it is not too difficult to see what happened historically. In chapter three we saw that there were later authors such as the author of Ephesians who claimed to be Paul but who transformed his teaching that the works of the Jewish law could not bring salvation into a teaching that said “good works” could not save (see Ephesians 2:8-9; see also Titus 3:5). For an author like the pseudonymous writer of Ephesians, doing good deeds does not contribute to making a person right with God. James therefore is reacting not to what Paul said but to what later Christians misunderstood Paul as saying. These later Pauline Christians interpreted Paul’s argument that it was faith, not works, that justified, to mean that it doesn’t matter what you do or how you live. It matters only what you believe. Paul’s teaching on “works of the law” was taken to be a general principle about “good deeds.” And Paul’s teaching about “trust in Christ” was altered into a teaching about “what to believe.” For these later Christians, then, what mattered was your belief, not your life. They thought this teaching came from Paul, and so they too appealed to Abraham, the father of all believers, and to Genesis 15:6, which indicated that Abraham was justified by his faith, not his works. James reacted against that by arguing the opposite: you can’t have true faith without it being reflected in how you live your life. “Faith without works is dead.”

Doc. Pleroma-naut; I have only just come across your comment and am a little puzzled by some of its content. Are you saying that Paul was not the author of Ephesians? Or have I misunderstood your references to 'later authors' and the 'pseudonymous writer of Ephesians'? The Pauline authorship of Ephesians was accepted by a stream of witnesses, including: Clement of Rome, Polycarp, Ignatius and others such as Hippolytes, Clement of Alexandria, the Marcian canon and the Muratorian canon (Believer's Bible Commnetary - William Macdonald). The so-called 'higher critics' have a long history of dredging up whatever flimsy 'evidence' they can find or invent, to challege the Inspiration of the scriptures; or any theory which can allow them to frantically, or complacently, cling on to their unbelief. The distinction between intellectual assent and saving faith is a tricky one. In many cases the distinction is no more than a word game. It is exploited by, for example, the adherents of Calvinism who, taking their lead from the totally unscriptural dogmas of TULIP, prematurely regard a backslidden believer as one 'who was not saved in the first place'. It is exploited also by 'Lordship Salvationists' such as MacArthur, Sproul, Piper and Gay, who don't seem to realise that only those who are saved and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, can even begin to walk in righteousness, and who take much of their material from the clumsy theology of the Puritan John Owen. The fact is that belief and unbelief both involve the will. The psalmist refers to the man who says in his heart 'there is no God', as a fool. Note the words 'in his heart'. The psalmist is not referring to a mere atheist. The words 'in his heart' refer to a decision of the will to refuse to believe. This fool is decided that he will reject the very possibility of a Creator, no matter what evidence is presented to him. The Pharisees personally witnessed the powerful acts and heard the perfect teaching of the Lord Jesus. They KNEW He was the true Messiah, but they refused to believe it.They verbally attributed His power as coming from the filthy 'deity' Beelzebub. In refusing to accept the known truth, it seems they committed the eternal sin, blaspheming the Holy Spirit of Truth. Just as will and intellect are involved in unbelief, they are also involved in belief. The preaching of faith in Christ does not demand an abadonment of the believer's intellect. Christians are not called to a life of 'pentecostal' arm-waving accompanied by shouts of alleluliah, and with speaking gibberish and convincing themselves that they are speaking in tongues. Nor are they called to swoon glassy-eyed into a recumbent semi-conscious bodily posture in the pews (I've seen this. believe me, and from supposedly 'mature' believers who are pretty much clueless when it comes to Scripture). Paul tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds; not to lose our minds altogether. The bible teaches once saved always saved. Those who oppose OSAS invariably attempt to characterise their interlocuters as licentious and unruly worldlings who think they can do whatever they want without any comeback. Nothing could be further from the truth (in the majority of cases anyway). Paul asked in Romans: 'Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?' And then answers his own question: 'God forbid'.( ESV - 'by no means'). Ironically, it is those who oppose OSAS who are far more judgemental and un -Christlike than those whom they malign as ne'er-do-wells. I hope, my friend, that your declared academic 'interest' in this interaction may prove to be a spark which will be fanned into the flame of joyful personal trust in, and intimacy with, the Lord Jesus Christ. One of Paul's judges in Rome said to him: 'You almost make me a Christian'. He didn't, contextually, mean that he was in any way persuaded by Paul's statements, but in reading your comment I have to say I sincerely hope that you do not one day appear before your Judge and Creator, and plead your case on the grounds that you 'took a scholarly interest ' in His word.You really need to take shelter under the precious blood shed at Calvary, through faith. @@williambunter3311 I can partially concede the authorship of Ephesians and though there are dissentions among scholars, there is no disagreement to accept it as an epistle from the extended Pauline school. As far as “Once Saved Always Saved” - I was never a fundamentalist Christian (I came from Jesuit Academia). I am afraid the precepts of Christianity are completely untenable to me now. Once you’ve seen behind the curtain from decades of Form Criticism, Higher Criticism, Historiography, etc you cannot unsee the wizard creating the tale. I am able to read koine Greek and Classical Hebrew (some Aramaic) and the NT is clearly a post-hoc rationalization for a crucified messiah utilizing a poor understanding of the Tenakh for prophecy and legitimacy. I might also disagree with Paul not to “abandon intellect” as he could demonstrate any point he wanted by simply articulating a clever proof from scripture. Read the Epistles and see. Paul does not seem very impressed by rational, historical, scientific, or dialectical evidence (check out 1 Corinthians 2), so these get no significant mention in his letters. Instead, Paul always ‘proves’ the truth by appealing to the efficacy of apostolic miracle-working, to subjective revelation, to scripture, and to his upstanding behavior or ‘suffering’ as proof of his sincerity. That’s pretty much it. After all, Paul and his flock believed ‘truth’ had to be grasped spiritually, on faith (1 Corinthians 2:15-16), not through skeptical investigation. Paul’s bizarre anti-empirical assumptions reflect the fact that Christian epistemology was fundamentally centered on faith over evidence. For “the righteous shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17) and so “we walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This is an attitude that offers little encouragement to “using intellect.” Ask in faith. Ask without doubting. The man who doubts is aimless, unstable, and worthy of no help from God. This is exactly the opposite of encouraging critical inquiry. It quite clearly discourages it. Finally, I am as worried about eternal conscious torment as you are of the Muslim hell-fire. I know theology for you is literally a life and death issue - for me, If eschatological violence was part and parcel of the “good news,” then it is difficult to see how such “good news” could be anything more than a veiled threat: Repent, or else! Of course in doing so you have necessarily made some sweeping statements, without any qualifications. A number of them are hardly credible. To say Paul was not mindful of history is one such statement. He was a scholar who knew the Old Testament and its historical narratives far more than any other scholar in his day. Furthermore he was fully cognisant of its relevance to the religious and political environment of his own day. As for 'dialectical evidence' I am not sure what you mean. He certainly had no time to waste with apologetics. The bible begins with the words 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'. This is presented as a fact, not as a basis for, or a conclusion from, debate. if you are looking for some sort of empirical proof that we are saved through faith, Doc, you are looking in the wrong book. On Mars Hill, Paul did not launch into a long-winded theological debate with the pagan worshippers. He presented the gospel of, to them, the unknown God and the Lord Jesus Christ. It is impossible for any man to gather God into his tiny limited understanding. Thus He has chosen that we come to Him through faith, not through our intellect. This is fitting also, in that the first human sin was that of unbelief in the garden. Men of the highest intellect have committed atrocities against their fellow creatures. Just look at your Roman Catholic scholars in the Inquisition. You complain of Paul appealing to the efficacy of miracles to promote the gospel. Why shouldn't he? The Lord Jesus Himself said 'If you do not believe Me for what I have spoken to you, believe Me for My works sake'. The name for miracles in the gospel according to John is 'semion', meaning 'signs'. God uses signs as he will, but together with, not in lieu of, Scripture. Paul did not have anything new to say? The mystery of the church was given into Paul's hands to uncover publicly. There was no hint of it in the Old Testament, and not more than a hint in the gospels. It was given to Paul to announce that Jews and Gentiles were now united in one Spiritual body on an equal basis. The middle wall of partition had been broken down. This was amazing. Have you not heard of the dispensations, Doc? There is a vast difference between subjective opinions and personal experience. Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus when he spoke with the risen Christ was not just a huge change of perspective on subjective opinions. It was a personal experience which turned his whole life upside down. A well known street preacher a hundred and twenty years ago was challenged by an atheist to a public debate. The preacher accepted the challenge, but saying that he did not want the occasion to be a waste of time, he made one single condition. He said he would bring with him to the debate at least fifty men and women whose lives had been changed through accepting Christ. He would bring drunkards who were now sober, wife beaters who were now peaceful family men, fallen women who were now chaste, gamblers and wasters who were now in employment. If the atheist could bring along anybody whose life had been changed in a similar way through listening to the atheist's arguments, the debate could go ahead. No doubt you can surmise which of them declined to proceed with the debate. Would your philosophy have attracted more witnesses Doc? We are talking about real flesh and blood human beings, not armchair debates between 'intellectuals'. There are some disturbing utterances in your comment Doc. The fact that you are from Jesuit Academia is a problem to start with. The Jesuit motto is 'give us the child, and we will give you the man'. I went to a Roman Catholic school and I have experienced the daily brainwashing, from which I only escaped when I left school and started reading the bible, instead of the catechism. Then you refer to your years of higher criticism. You whole educational life has subjected you to brainwashing, and now you are reacting by throwing out the truth together with the garbage your head was crammed with. Or the Popes who will stand before God at the great white throne, no longer dressed in their colourful robes and accompanied by their costly entourage, but as naked ugly frightened old men with the blood of millions on their hands? I WOULD NOT LIKE TO INHABIT YOUR MIND. I really doubt that your self-proclaimed scholarship has extended to a genuine study of the bible at all. You are responsible to God as an individual. You can remain in Catholic heresy and blasphemy, or you can submit to the loving wise arms of the Lord Jesus. You seem to be in your heart an unbeliever. Ask the Lord to give you a change of heart.

Actually the thief on the cross did do a work he rebuked the other thief on the cross and he justly accused himself of his own sin and Jesus forgave him and not just that work he evangelised in the presences of other standing near the cross. What great and wondrous work this thief did in the eyes of the lord.

Yes we broke the 10 commandments, all of them. By repentance in the name of Jesus our Lors and Savior, He forgive us. He also want us to turn away from sins. For example: if I was an adulterer, then I pray in the name of Jesus for forgiveness of my sin. God will forgive me. Does that mean I can continue to do Adulterer? No!!! Faith without work is dead.

Great discussion. Blood of Jesus covers our sin, however exercising faith in that provision does require us doing something. When it is a last minute conversion I think only God himself can judge whether that persons heart is complete toward his Son. For those of us who have accepted Christ as our saviour Romans 10v13,14,15 shows clearly we do have to do something and obviously with a mild temper and respect.
