I have been an RSV and more recently an ESV reader. I was in the Bible book store last week and saw a CSB - a translation I was not familiar with. I read it for awhile in the bookstore, and fell in love with how comfortable it was to read. I purchased it, and now can't put it down. Thanks for a great translation.

I been using the CSB Disciples's Study Bible and this has been the best study Bible I have ever owned. The translation feels as readable as the NIV or NLT while being closer to the ESV or NASB. The reading plan, journaling, and verse memorization has me walking away understanding the scriptures BETTER than I ever had in years. Once I complete the year long plan and filled every journal entry, I am going to get another CSB study Bible (possibly the Charles Spurgeon or the CSB Study Bible, haven't decided yet).

Hi CSB! I love and appreciate this translation of the Holy Bible. I hope you will not frequently update your 2017 text, which is an update itself. I hope CSB will not be like the ESV and the NLT that frequently updates their version. Because, for me it means that the translators (including reviewers) were not confident in their final work, and it gives us the impression that it cannot be the Christians "Standard" Bible. As a consequence, we will not be confident too, and if we aren't confident enough, we will not be able to use CSB text as a memory verse for all ages. It will just be like some translations that we only use as an alternative translation, not as the main version (e.g. KJV) that the church can officially endorse or use. I hope you will be like the NIV, NASB and the NRSV that only after several decades it was updated because of the advances in scholarship and development in the English language. Lastly, it is expensive in our part to purchase your products again, because there's a new version and the 2017 is out of print and unusable already like the ESV 2011. Kindly update it if there's a significant change in the meaning of the English language or advances in scholarship, or archeologists discovered another ancient manuscripts (like the Dead Sea scrolls) that is earlier and authoritative. Congratulations to all!

Why do these translations have Matthew 19:9 as "sexual immorality" when the word is "fornication" You could say that your spouse looking at pornography is sexually immoral, but is it the same as "fornication" ? No, not quite because fornication is sexual intercourse with someone not your spouse. Sexual immorality is a weak rendering of the Greek pornia, it is actually a broader idea than God spoke. I am amazed in this day and age with the number of people that I see wanting a deeper Bible study but leave KJV when they could keep KJV and study from any other translation by internet researches.

One of my own translation errors resulted in my friends referring to the case of an excessively literal translation being called the "good arms error", because of a Japanese idiom. One example of this can be found at Isaiah 5.1b where a literal translation might be "A vineyard is made to my beloved in a horn the son of oil", which is actually so literal as to be *wrong* (!). A better translation would be "My beloved set up a vineyard on a fertile hillside", which is similar to what most translations have.
@dorcasmcleod65834 жыл бұрын
So how did you figure that out? You researched it. But this seeking for better and better translations is silly to me. There is confusion that God did not intend.

I've got three CSBs arriving tomorrow: the study bible, a personal size, and a compact. Even so, the idea that "optimal equivalence" is something new; that no other translation team has ever thought of before; that others have labored under a false notion of having to choose between word for word and dynamic equivalence ... is nonsense ... but not totally nonsense. I believe it is basically a sales strategy designed to make people believe some new, never before heard of, or thought of, translation style. Does anyone seriously believe that the ESV or the NIV people did not employ the same approach of sticking to word for word except when it would lead to a misunderstanding of the meaning of the text? Yes, publishers who bankroll these projects are not non-profits. They will, indeed, look for all necessary marketing methods. The CSB is a good translation. I own one and like it. I've bought three more. But let's not be gullible.

I really love this translation. However I think it can be improved. For example, the greek word amen (supposed to be pronounced, "Ah-mane") is translated "Assuredly" in the NKJV and "truly" in the NASB. But where it is repeated , i.e. "Amen amen" the NKJV has "Most assuredly," and the NASB has "Truly, truly." The HCSB and the CSB translates "amen" the same as "amen amen". Besides a few instances such as this (and maybe some more footnotes may be needed) , I think this is one of THE best translations. I hope to see it get even better in the future.

The original chart makers should have put thought for thought translations to the left since it’s more of a open minded way of translating. Word for Word would be the more conservative translation and therefore belongs on the right. In my opinion

To follow such agenda 100 more versions might see the world and still will be missing. The best practical idea would be to take original, translate grammatically, word for word (or word for a few, as in amplified), the best possible, cause completely different sentence building structure. Scripture text will be done. Otherwise youre killing yourself, very hard, cause completely different languages. But then compose commentaries on each passage, but apart from text. What this text means, taking as issue all cultural, historical, social conditions of passage or book. Eather in the same volume or in the one on its own each will choose commentary according to his level. Because scripture itself is still much to discover. Different book structure? No problem, but scripture text would be the same. And symphony would be the one, easier to communicate for christians. And audionarrative. I think much already exists. Jews, messianics, christians done all, it all here and there. Only to put together. Forgot to say: reading any(best translated) bible text only(without amplification or commenting) might be misunderstanding or miss of important

Guys tell me it's not crazy that the Lord's Prayer has changed in your Bibles! Literally pick your Bible up and read this verse after I tell you... I think it's Mark 6: 9 - 13... The part where it says "forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us". *IT'S NO LONGER TRESPASS* . Now it's "forgive is our DEBTS, and those DEBTORS against us"! If you deny this, pick your Bible up now! And confirm! It's in all Bibles! If you want to know what the hell this phenomenon is called, just ask. Again, this is not a joke! I wouldn't have written all this for a stupid joke.
@reidmason25512 жыл бұрын
It was also "debts/debtors" in the Geneva Bible, which predates the KJV. If anything, the KJV is the odd man out on this one.

Shouldn't we be more interested in accuracy than readability? Which bible is most accurate to the text used by the church down through the ages since the second century?
@SolomonsWisdom5 жыл бұрын
I agree but at the same time, I can barely understand my King James Version, so this CSB version is really way more effective for me.
@gray65805 жыл бұрын
If you have trouble reading and understanding the KJV, perhaps my granddaughter of 7 years could give you some help. That is the weakest argument given. In terms of accuracy and readability the KJV is easiest according to the Flesch/Kinkade reading levels study. I find using an English dictionary is also helpful for unknown words...even the CSB has words that need to be defined. What do you do with the verses that are missing in the CSB but in the Greek? And, what version has lasted over 400 years as the standard for church evangelism and gospel revivals in the USA and Europe? Seen more conversions to Christ than any version known to man and used as the 'standard' of comparison for centuries? And one more, not one error has been proven in it when it comes to geography, biography, history, poetry, doctrine, or any other study of man. Let's face it. There is no other Bible that comes close to the KJV...even when you compare all to the 'standard'! Just a note: the CSB is an eclectic version of the NASB which is a revision of the ASV which is the American version of the RSV of 1881 of Wescott and Hort. Most modern versions are based on a common Greek text (Nestle/Aland 4) which is a Roman Catholic Greek text which all modern versions are compiled from as far as Greek text. The KJV is from the Traditional text going back to the second century use in the churches of Asia Minor and Europe.

Shirley Gray Your post reminds me that I’m glad I’m no longer apart of the “KJV only” crowd. So much hate and pride in your post, but that is the “KJV only” crowd for ya. I’ve found so much more love and passion for Jesus outside of that crowd. As I said I used to be “KJV only”, but I did a lot research on the HCSB(not CSB) and found it used the original text that the KJV used, and had 100 scholars work on the translation so as to ensure accuracy. I love the accuracy and readability of the HCSB, along with the use of Yahweh and capitalization of the Lords pronouns. Now the CSB messed everything up that was good about the HCSB, won’t ever be buying one of those.

Since the CSB is an eclectic text (revised Westcott/Hort) and follows the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus manuscripts of the Vatican over the Traditional Text, why do they not complete the change and add the Apocrypha that is in those Greek manuscripts? Reason is that it would not sell to the general Protestant churches and money is a strong motivator for selling newer translations.

It's not God's word. It's just man's attempt at it. Stick with the Holy Bible that is over 400 years old. There are many man made errors in these modern versions. Many of the "errors" are on purpose. You don't get to choose what God said. If you want choices go to Baskin Robbins.

The Bible has been corrupted. Those who came after Jesus like Paul, and others have corrupted the teachings of Jesus. Jesus was the messenger of Allah and Muhammad is the final messenger of Allah. Read the Qur’an and you’ll find the truth.
