I love how she articulates a lot of the textural details very clearly.

Such an insightful video and wonderful interpretation of a titan of a piece. I can’t wait to hear the full recording! I would also love an album of blues-Rachmaninov arrangements :)

I havs The Van Cliburn recording . He doesn’t play the 1913 version all away . He played basically the 1913 version but he is taking over alternatives from the 1931 version for example the ending of the first movement. and in the second movement he played the second theme from the first movement which is in the 1931 version. There are some other alternatives from the 1931 version in the Cliburn recording. Michael Ponti and Zoltan Kochis recordet the exactly 1913 version. Ashkenazy is very close to Cliburn but not totally identical. Very interesting combinations we have by Horowitz and Collard. Ogdon played the 1931 version all away through.

THat was great to listen to you talk about the 2nd Sonata. The original version is my favourite as well, especially when it comes to the 2nd movement, the revised version has all those unnecessary arpeggiated chords at the beginning of each bar during the opening lilting melody and unnecessary thinning of the chordal progression in the right hand, and the great middle section is completely changed in the revised version, the original version is by far more poetic and lyrical and works much better as a whole throughout the piece. I really love your recording of the 2nd Sonata.

I agree with you the original version. It is not overly complex and not overly long. It is the way he originally intended.
