I never understood why this song wasn't bigger than it was. If her name was Beyonce, everyone would've remembered this song as a huge global hit. Christina Milian never got the credit she deserved.

I can never understand why tunes like this were stifled from becoming the big hits that they should of been. the early 2000's really showed potential for another golden age of Hip Hop & R&B emerging but sadly by the time we got to 2007 it fizzled out. We now live in a era that is pretty much monopolised by Beyonce & Rihanna when it comes to what so called female R&B is today (a watered down Pop genre shell of what it used to be) and it has been for what feels like an eternity. Man I miss music like this Whatever U Want track, music that really lifted your spirits and had so much colour to it both sonically and visually.

I 100% agree with you and I honestly think it’s a little bit by design. A sure-fire guaranteed moneymaker from a huge global star is much more attractive to greedy, out of touch execs, than a popular but not huge artist who needs support and marketing. Everytime they take a risk and pay for producers, videos, promo etc, they see it as a gamble. I hate to say this but I think Jay Z had a big part in shutting down all the other female acts slowly but surely. Think about it. He makes money with B. He makes money with Ri (she’s signed under him.) He doesn’t make money with Ashanti, Mya, Christina Milian, Sevyn Streeter, whoever… Danity Kane was a breath of fresh air in 07, the year you mentioned… but they were associated with Diddy… another “businessman” with a lot of control in the biz. I think that these controlling men have a much bigger role than we give them credit for. They have alot of influence in the industry. Combine that with risk-averse business types, and the fear and loss of money associated with the rise of the pirated music…. we had a real drought. I’m happy it’s changing now a little bit, finally, but it’s been far too long without much needed diversity in the female r&b game.

If she'd released all her hit singles nowadays, she'd have been much bigger than back then. Mainstream music is more accepting of people singing in genres outside of what they are stereotyped into, i.e. she would've been able to sing pop no problem, and also hit it big. I was 14/15 when all her songs came out and revisiting them now, they stood the test of time for sure.

Absolutely not. Let me tell you, I’m a huge fan of this woman and have followed her career from the very beginning. Go do some research as to why her music career failed. It’s actually pretty crazy as to why. It had nothing to do with her fans, music or popularity. See if you can find her interviews, other celebrity interviews as well as her family speaking about it. Poor girl could have, would have became huge if she didn’t have the worst luck of what happened to her after being signed to 3 separate huge record labels. She gave up on music bc of what happened. She deserved better than how she was treated by those record labels and her fellow peers. One of the labels, def Jam, Beyonce and Jay z completely threw her under the bus. This isn’t a conspiracy about how ppl always say they shaft ppl’s careers. The person who ran def jam at the time even said Beyonce was the reason he dropped her. When you research it you can actually see real interviews of big named producers, artists, CEO’s and celebrities who speak about what happened. I just seen like a month ago the guy who ran def jam at the time speak about this. They make it sound like Beyonce meant no harm when they tell the story, but when you put it all together, you realize she absolutely meant harm from what she and her husband gained from it. Bey is my favorite artist and I love her so I’m not saying this as a Beyonce hater, it’s just 100% facts and it’s sad when you hear what she said and they make it sound like she was just helping them and meant absolutely zero harm but when she see what they gained, it’s too obvious her reason for why she said what she said.
