I shopped at the Toronto Vintage show a few weeks ago. It was my first time attending and I was amazed at the selection of high-quality pieces and how genuinely helpful and friendly the merchants were. Really happy with my purchases and the prices were decent.

As a Ukrainian-Canadian living in Toronto, I loved this vid! I’ve heard of VSP but not the other two shops. Would love to see more content about second hand shopping in the city, and your commentary about thrift shopping tips. ❤

Your founding father comment was hilarious!! A few years ago we visited Mount Rushmore and my son with autism very innocently, and very adamantly, pointed out that he was fairly convinced that the carving of George Washington was me! I guess I wear my hair in a low ponytail a lot 😂😂🤷♀️

I totally relate to the stress of trying to make a conscious purchase online. I'll spend months debating on my head to get it and sometimes when I decide to get it I still get disappointed. From making impulse purchases I guess I need to visit the other extreme of waiting and stressing for each purchase until I reach a happy medium.

i have those low top Frye harness boots in the low and high version and i love LOVE them so much!! but i deff wouldn't pay that much. you can find them second hand so easily.
@marylhere6 ай бұрын
I have collected Frye Harness boots for the past fifteen years….all eBay purchases. The new soles and heels on truly vintage boots costs a fortune so getting boots for $100 to 200 is a good price. I have never seen boots like this at the local GW or Savers. I say eBay etc will give you sizes that thrift stores do not. Just make sure you can see the front of the boots side by side. Have purchased a pair with mismatched stitching that only I notice….me and everyone approaching me. I have called out a seller who posted ten photos and then noticed the boots were removed.

95% of my wardrobe is thrifted and I have found so many things that were perfect and on my list. Very weird how it works out for me. Especially since I’m not a common size and I have a long 33” inseam. I have scored so many perfect jeans and trousers many from the mens department. I love the thrill of the hunt and can spend hours doing it lol

TEXTURE HAIR TIPS: - sleep with a bonnet = less frizz - limit shampooing, natural oils are your friend - rinse cold = smoothes cuticle, less frizz - detangle (gently) when wet or damp - leave in conditioner - "plop", wear a cotton t-shirt or pillowcase as a turban to absorb moisture without heat/blow dry = less frizz, allows the "locks" to "clump" - i then like to air dry, but no heat diffuser is ok too ✨

Great video- would love to see a part 2 where you go to more charity shops ( I think you call them goodwill in Canada) where it’s very much hunting for well hidden gems, but prices tend to be very cheap due to the lack of curation. I recently found a carharrt jacket for £0.25 to give you an idea. Thanks Christina ☺️

I don't consider going to high end consignment and curated vintage stores to be 'thrifting'. Thrifting is ALL about the hunt and finding the diamonds in the rough. It means you are willing to physically dig through sh** and not spend much money. I also don't consider shopping Poshmark or thredup to be thrifting. But then I've thrifted, hands on, for 60 years.
@beautyamongashes83787 ай бұрын
To me it just means shopping for used goods at a second hand store. No one way is wrong♥️
@DrDroog297 ай бұрын
I mean it’s cultural. Like in the rural south/US you have no choice but to sift through sh*t. But thrifting as a definition is literally just looking through secondhand and finding something you like and can use. People compiling secondhand items into a more interesting curated selection for people to buy is not any less ‘thrifting’ than a random goodwill. If a hypothetical community with a lot of cool taste and high dollar interests has a goodwill and they’re the only ones who drop items off there, does that make a shopper coming in and finding every item really cool not thrifting? Nah. The only thing that’s not thrifting is shopping new.

Side note: when you were describing a typical TO girl in athleisure wear in one of your recent podcasts you nailed her. I say that with much love, she’s awesome.

I've never heard anyone refer to regular thrift shops as "punk rock". 🤨 I guess compared to luxury consignment stores I can see how it seems like that. Still, it's nice to see you shopping secondhand.
@Lau3464l6 ай бұрын
Toronto has thrift shops that are full to the brim of leather jackets, band tees, clothes with lots of hardware, items that would legitimately be considered like punk, 90s punk rock, etc. I think she’s referring specifically to those stores because it’s a specific pocket of the city with a bunch of shops like that all together
