Great Wall of China, Beijing - Winter is the best time to visit China!

The Great Wall of China is a World Heritage wonder and the only man-made structure that can be seen from outer space. It's a jaw-dropping sight at any time of the year but for a special treat, go in winter. You'd be surprised to find that winter is the best time to visit China and to explore the Great Wall without the crowds. The winter wonderland landscape is ethereal, especially when it snows on the Great Wall.
When visiting the Great Wall there are several places you can climb the wall. You can take a Badaling Great Wall tour or a Mutianyu Great Wall tour.
Visiting the Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic things to do when you're in Beijing. Walking the Great Wall of China is something everyone should try at least once. You don't have to walk the whole way. Well, you'd have to be pretty fit to do so!
It's a day trip to visit while staying in Beijing. My tour was organised by Bespoke Beijing. I stayed at China World Summit Wing in the Shangri-La Beijing.

I can't imagine how it feels for the tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers stationed on the Great Wall for years and years even decades on rotation and away from their families, going through the bitter cold and heavy snowfall, always on alert at all times to defend China from northern invaders. I have the utmost respect for all those soldiers. They are heroes!!

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd want to be there in the winter. I remember parts of the wall being very steep and with all that ice it would be daunting. It's a totally different view from there in the snow though. Unique pictures.

I know it seems very obvious of an answer but... it depends on your personal tolerance for the cold / how you define "cold". Where do you live? For example, if you live in Chicago, where the definition of "miserable" is like double-digits Fahrenheit below freezing, then I assure you you don't have to worry about the cold in Beijing -- at worst, it would be about the same as Chicago. If you are from Miami, on the other hand, yeah... stock up on many, many layers and make sure not to overheat either when getting into warm indoor spaces by not taking off layers.

This was early December so it's possible you might get snow, although not guaranteed. If you go up to Innter Mongolia you'll definitely see snow.
