Rebecca Luker, best Christine ever. My girlfriend and I got standing room tickets in 1989 for Phantom; it was a tough ticket to get. I had never heard of Rebecca Luker, but her voice took the breath out of me (and still does). A few years later, we saw The Secret Garden and I recognized the name, and of course, the voice. After that, we tried to see her in all her performances, Broadway, Off Broadway, Cabaret. About 40 performances, including the oddball "Can't Let Go". Best performance: "Darling of the Day" at the York. Just floored me. Thank You for so many years of wonderful memories. You got a bad hand dealt you later in life, it's just a "bad business" as my father used to say. It's just so unfortunate, as it is for all people that have these diseases. Sigh. Wish you well, for what that is worth.

I only discovered 20m ago that Rebecca died two days before Christmas last year (I don't think the news made it to the UK, as I don't recall reading about it), so in her honor, I have come back to this video now and I will rewatch. RIP Rebecca x

So I realize that I’m 4 years late in posting this comment, but I’m watching this again and I just got to the point in the video that Seth and James bring Hugh Panaro on, and the way he literally coos “hi Lukey” to Rebecca is The SWEETEST!!. Aw. I didn’t know of Rebecca for long at all before she passed away but I appreciated her Immensely Gorgeous voice right away.

Rewatching this for the 2nd time in February 2021. I want to see Phantom on Broadway (I have never seen it on Broadway) and sit directly beneath the chandelier!

100% you must see it. I will say, sitting in the first four rows is fantastic for the chandelier, however, do not scorn getting seats further back, you get to see the proscenium (the angel sculptures around the stage) and Phantom himself appears way up high, and you wont be able to get the full effect if you're in real close.

Brandon McCollum Michael Crawford met the AEA's requirement since the only exception was if the performer was an international star, which they deemed adequate. Brightman on the other hand didn't qualify at all. ALW publicly pulled a lot of strings and made guarantees that other producers wouldn't never even get the opportunity to negotiate. Could you blame the rest of the OBC for not being impressed with Brightman to begin with? Every critic across the pond and in New York noticed it, "After months of playing ''Phantom'' in London, she still simulates fear and affection alike by screwing her face into bug-eyed, chipmunk-cheeked poses more appropriate to the Lon Chaney film version." Ironically, Frank Rich's review was one of the nicer ones.
