Popper Virtuosic Pieces Project! This is the first video of my Popper Project where I will be recording and publishing the virtuosic pieces of Popper.
What makes this piece challenging is finding spiccato (italian spiccare, to separate) for the entire piece. It is very short, but it requires stamina of the right arm and the precision of coordination between the left and right arms.
FUN FACT : David Popper was one of the last great cellists who did not use an endpin. An 1880 drawing of Popper playing in a string quartet shows that although he started his cello career without using an endpin, he adopted it later in his life. i can't quite imagine playing this piece without the endpin !!
