I've covered quite a few box cushions over the years, but I've always made a three piece cover, top, bottom and side piece with the zipper in it. I have to say that I really like this method and wow did you ever do a great job of demonstrating it! You're a great teacher, thank you so much for sharing this.

I like you show how to precut the corners. Ever since a pattern that I forget what it was for, maybe a purse, had me do a zipoer by sewing entire seam closed but backbtacking where zipper would be open, changing to longest stitch between backtacks ive never done any other way! Center zipper face down having back tacks inside zipoer stops, turn over and top stitch evenly. Stitch rip between back tacks. Perfectlymatching fabric ends. Doesnt matter if zipoer wiggled a little. Top stitcing perfect when closed. I've done EVERY zipper of my life that way! Whether one end of a pillow or even an open dress zipper. Certain items i make the seam allowance an inch. Adjust fit or finished measurments to the larger seam allowance on zipper side. For foam cushins ive made a slip covee literalky from okd slips! Whip stitch it closed. One time from king sized micro fiber pilkow covers never used. Width, zipper perfect just short, sewed half of one to the other! Was a cushion for a chest.

Thanks for the tips. I have tried this method a few times, but tend to be too lazy to tidy up the stitches that I've ripped out. It certainly makes for an even zip closure.😁

When I made my cushion covers, 6 bottom & 6 backs, I did top & bottom pieces with sides & the zip wrapped around the sides a bit. Makes it much easier to get the cushion into the 'open mouth'.

I did your idea when I made large cushions for my couch and multiple dog beds, makes inserting the foam much easier. The side band is cut a inch or longer which gives enough fold back to cover the zipper tab, nothing shows. Yes great you tubes. I also wrapped the foam for dog beds with multiple layers of plastic wrap to keep the foam cleaner as it’s so expensive.

While sitting in a chair, I use my lower legs and knees to hold the cushion folded while I work the cover over the folded cushion using my hands and arms. It is a lot easier with two people. I hate doing this by myself; because, I always break some finger nails during the process.

Great video! Exactly what I needed. You make adding the slider look so easy! It's the part of a continuous zip that I still struggle with. If you have a fabric that tends to fray, would you have used French seams to finish the inside? Thanks!

Love watching your tutorials Christine but why do you work in inches and not cm?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 8 ай бұрын
That is a great question, and until earlier today, I had no idea that most of the world was using metric. I grew up with metric, and when I began quilting about 20 years ago, I had to learn inches as we couldn't purchase metric mats or rulers in Australia, and as most of my customers were quilters, I had to convert. I've had several requests for cm instead of inches, and tomorrow I'll search for metric tools to change my system. I think the other side of my cutting mat is even in cm. My future videos will have both😀
@RaeleneCharabie
@RaeleneCharabie 8 ай бұрын
Funny you say that, I have been watching lots of tutorials lately and a lot use cm, as a patchworker in Australia we use inches , so I am converting backwards. Rough guide is 2.5 cm in an inch, if you just google x” to come it will convert for you. 😊
