I would like the bottom to be topped stitched. I am old school and we had to press every seam. Would it give a crisper edge to the side and bottom top stitching?

Love the bag, it is really cute and great fabric choices. I would leave the base stitching off and as far as the boxed corners I prefer the method you used here as I find it more accurate and hate it when my seams come undone after cutting boxes out. Definitely making one of these. Would make great gifts too. Thanks again x

Christine I can’t thank you enough for explaining things the way you do. I have been watching video after videos on how to sew this zipper at the top. You have nailed it. You do such an awesome job explaining this. It was like a light bulb going off in my head. I am so excited to make this bag. I prefer the method you are using with this bag. I am neither a beginner or expert. I have had issues boxing corners when I cut them first.

Take a black permanent marker and cover up the white thread on the black zipper. Works like a charm.

Hi Christine - I have a few shirts that need shortening and this video is just what I was looking for. Long time follower of your videos on your home management and sewing projects. Please make more of these videos on alterations. However, I have a question: How do you measure a shirt that has an extra long back (compared to the front) to shorten both the front and back equally? I think the extra long backs look so silly! Thank you and long may you thrive 🙏🙏
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Күн бұрын
Thank you Susan. Hemming the back and front are really personal choice. Often the front is shorter than the back, and if it suits, you can take the same amount off all the way around, but if you still need a shorter back, draw the desired line in with chalk or erasable pen on the back starting from the side seams, then cut accordingly. I plan to do more alterations videos, but most of what I do are plain pants hems.😀

Many thanks for this Christine - didn’t realise you could use petersham or curtain header tape for this, and I have plenty of both 😊 I’ve just discovered in UK you can get 38mm Banrol for £1.95 per metre from TheLiningCompany.co.uk, based in Southend. Happy sewing everyone from a Granny In Scotland 🥰

I really like this bag Christine, I would love to know if it would be possible to do an addition to enable an umbrella slot in the base?

Great tutorial, I will try this out but I will topstitch outer and lining together to about 1.4" from each edge then after the bag is turned through go back and topstitch the one end of the bag opening where the slider rests when the bag is closed. Hope this makes sense.

Another great bag Christine! I prefer to cut out the box corners and if seam allowance is taken into consideration, it is a fail proof method! The other method has gone awry for me. ❤ 🇨🇦

Thanks for your videos I've learnt to sew this year off you tube and have made a few of your projects. Hut made them my own versions. Some work out other I find harder like bags with round corners using bias tape I get it ihorribly wrong 😆

I lie learning both methods of boxed corners I prefer not cutting them I get better results more even. Wonderful video I part made a bad yesterday like your one but different. I had no idea how to finish the top of the bag and will try a recess zipper option I used a beautiful fat quarter with purples and blue with French writing on it and some black fabric for sides amm using webbing for strap and inside two pockets on each side. One sewnin in parts the other size of a cell phone. Also incl a keychain with a clip on it so you can remove it
