@@ReallyNotTrix1 Chrome is considerably worse than Firefox! Tell me, why does Google keep itself starting up on Windows (probably via a service) even if you remove it from the startup-programs in msconfig? Most likely because it spies on you. If you think it isn't, it certainly is spying on you while you browse the web. That is how it knows which ads to 'serve' you. Mozilla has done some bad things too. There was some telemetry on limited scale without the user his permission, I don't like how Mozilla pushes its cloud-feature (Pocket, I need to get into the config to remove it from the bar), Mozilla was incredibly late with adding multithread-support and for years there were new serious bugs regularly. But at the moment it has multithreaded support, I haven't had any noticable bug for 1-2 years, it is relatively light on resources and you can disable potential telemetry in the GUI which is more than what can be said of Chrome. If you are stuck in the Google-ecosystem for whatever reason, then at least use Brave. I have been using Firefox since before it became hip to use either Firefox or Chrome and to bash Internet Explorer, Chrome didn't exist back then.

The thing I can't live without from Vivaldi are the mouse gestures. Yeah I know you can add them to other browsers and opera was known for mouse gestures for a long time, but even with add ons on other browsers, I can't seem to get the same experience, and I find myself trying to use them outside of browsing, like in the explorer, or steam, or whatever has navigation, and getting getting really confused when they don't do anything, that's how much I'm used to mouse gestures and how they improve all my web browsing flow

Thank you for this video. I've been watching your stuff for a little while and saw this pop up as a suggestion. I decided to see how my recent browser of choice, Opera, would fair against Brave and Vivaldi. As soon as you mentioned you would make fun of certain users for using a specific browser, I figured it was Opera and became interested to know why. Boy oh boy did I not know those things about Opera. Bummed me out since I have used them on and off for decades and had no idea they had gotten sold. The entire thing made my recent move to Manjaro pretty funny. See I decided to do it because I broke Opera trying to get video codes and HTML 5 properly working on Pop. Basically I couldn't use KZbin anymore. I saw this was a one click install for Manjaro and was quite excited. Sadly I'm on a laptop with hybrid nvidia graphics and the solutions for that on Manjaro have a ways to go in my opinion. I really hope to see that all fleshed out soon (especially with the recent Gnome updates) as I think long term I'd rather be on Manjaro after using it. Pop tends to "just work" more often than not for me and the fresh install has actually done a lot to improve overall quality of life. And now that I've swapped browsers I don't need to worry about youtube not working and accidentally breaking anything trying to get codecs installed (seriously I found like a dozen walkthroughs to get those working and none of them worked for me. One of them literally made it so Opera wouldn't launch). I've now swapped over to Brave as my main browser. Added bonus for me is it's chromium based so I can now use certain tools (jitsi) without having to open chromium. So again, thanks for this! This single video caused me to wipe an OS and uninstall a browser from my Windows partition. I can't think of another youtube video that caused me to take so much action in a single day.

I am an Opera user and have been happy the whole time when using it in windows. it is snappy, way better than chrome, very customizable and I love some of the features about it, like play-in-play mode which is better compared to other browsers etc. The sync works perfectly fine for me, never had a single issue in my laptop nor in my mobile phone. Trying to push people to use vivaldi just because you claim the synchronization is the best in vivaldi browser its a complete misleading fact too my eyes. Also when u mention about different opera scandals pls make sure to put some links or references from your sources in the video description, this would help people to understand how valid/true is the proclamation. About the performance I can say that from my experience vivaldi never performed better than opera.I am not against vivaldi by any means, i like it but its wrong to say don't use opera because you have vivaldi. Furthermore opera has some really handy features which blocks the ads & trackers, and i can say that it does it very well, even better than some installed extensions like ads blocker etc.By default in opera you have a really nice sidebar with all handy tools you need which to my opinion looks way better than in vivaldi! When u say that opera is dead in terms of new features/innovative features you can not be more wrong than that! opera is adding more and more features and it has everything a normal user needs. And i can tell that the reason why i moved from chrome to opera is just because of so many features it supports by default. I can list a ton of them if you like! But, there is always a but.... opera in linux sucks when compared to other browsers(havent tried vivaldi thou): why ?! because too my opinion its not very well optimized(opera team does not seem to care a lot for linux users), which makes it slower to the windows counterpart and it consumes a lot more resources compared to the windows version. The overall video message: dont use opera because there is vivaldi!

I've never considered opera and even less after this video, thank you so much for this video chris, yet I have one question: What is your opinion regarding browsers for smartphones. again, thank you for your work! :D

I've been using Vivaldi for about 2 years now?..LOVE it...I promise if you try it out..you'll love it too...this is coming from someone that's been through FireFox, Chrome, Opera, etc .. It was actually developed by one of the guy who created opera..so it has some familiarizes there..if privacy and multitasking is your thing..give it a spin..

About the VPN not encrypting any data: how did you confirm this? I used Wireshark and found that the data was encrypted indeed. But many people say otherwise. Is this just some feedbacking of rumors or am I missing something here?
@ChrisTitusTech4 жыл бұрын
The VPN only encrypts browser-based activity to Opera VPN Servers. The VPN is also hosted by SurfEasy which operates out of Canada which is a 5-eyes country. So they would be obligated to turn over any information about your browser history. The VPN also keeps logs and tracks user activity. The only encrypted tunnel is from your PC to SurfEasy in Canada using AES-256 encryption. Also, this is a glorified proxy as you can do the tests yourself using the following Github project. gist.github.com/spaze/558b7c4cd81afa7c857381254ae7bd10 Do tests on it yourself and come to your own conclusion. I honestly could have made a 10-minute video just roasting Opera, but cut it down to a couple minutes just for the sake of brevity.

In high school, I used to rock Opera on a USB drive. I installed it on there and toggled the data saver on. Doing that allowed me to go to sites like KZbin that were blocked. And I do remember the VPN being super super slow which is why I used the data saver. Which allowed you to bypass some blocked sites because it compressed the site in a way that allowed it to get past the filter the school had. It was the only way to do it because installing software on school computers took a long time because they are slow. However, I have used Vivaldi which I have deemed way better than Opera and the Co-founder of Vivaldi is the same man who was the CEO of Opera.

Opera and Vivaldi are proprietary software. The only free browser you mentioned in this video is Brave. I recommend Falkon. It's the current KDE browser. Remember that most of today's browsers are based on khtml as it was that good and that far ahead of all the crappy popular browsers at the time. Konqueror was the first browser to support CSS 3.

I ditched Opera the day it was known that a chinese company bought it. Even before that I wasn't too happy after they ditched the presto browser for chromium. Not because the engine was bad, because the browser went bad. I am now using Vivaldi and I'm very happy with it.

Hi Chris, thanks for the video, i think that maybe you forgot the huge security/anti-tracking featured system on Brave, witch is the reason that I use it. I agree with you with Opera. Geez, for real, is even legal that browser? LOL . Anyway. Vivaldi, yes and maybe, since that I don't use any Google app anymore and cloud sync's in hands of any company is not thinkable for me anymore. Go forward to the new Nextcloud Chris. Privacy matters :) :=P

From what I understood from numerous articles, only threat to your privacy is the opera vpn. Don't use it and you are good to go with opera. Personally I'm a firefox user and I use opera only for accessing sites through vpn.

I stopped using Opera full time when I found out about the sale to China. Didn't want to use Chrome because Google is listening to everything, so I went back "old school" and got back into using Firefox. Been using Vivaldi for the last several months now though. Have also used Brave in the past. I love both of them for different reasons. Brave because of the security centric aspects of it. Vivaldi because of the balance of security, usability, and user friendly modding. There are a few minor issues I have with Vivaldi if I'm nitpicking, but not anything that I haven't gotten used to.

I've been a very stubborn Opera user since it was paid. I've always liked it because it's always been very innovative with new interesting features and the developers are Nordic so I want to give them a little support. I don't care that the owner is Chinese and that the monetization situation isn't the best, I'll see ads independently of browser and I don't care if some company sees which pages I've visited. One thing that has annoyed me a long time is the bad syncing between devices and now It forgets that I've logged in several times a week so I'm switching to Vivaldi. I hope it has better sync functionality, that's the most important thing for me.

did Vivaldi ever make complete Visual Bookmarks and drag n drop ease like its integrated and synched in like featured in Opera Browser? I know some Firefox and Chrome extensions got to make Visual Bookmarks but in all those cases the add-on creator either abandoned the project, discarded it or made some malicious change that broke Terms and was removed. Once your favorite Bookmark add-on gets lost, you lost your bookmarks. Browsers seem to outlive add-ons so I'm better off looking for things as built-in features rather than add-ons.
