I made one last year but did not have an electric whisk.. took absolutely ages. I’m sure my dad enjoyed being in the background watching me and my aching arms - all knowing there was a Kitchen Aid hand whisk waiting for me under the tree!

Just wanted to let ya’ll know that I made this on Christmas Eve this year. The instructions are perfect. A little stressful (I was certain it was going to stick to the tea towel, but it didn’t). The cake was a MAJOR hit with my family. So good, so light. Definitely adding this recipe to the cookbook. Highly recommend.

Made it again this year. My mom was asking me all year long to make it again, but I resisted because I wanted it to be a Christmas treat; like something to look forward to. I’ve made one of these every year since I was 8 years old as a Christmas tradition and it’s so fun! We actually use a fork at the end to make ridges and lines throughout the icing to make it look like tree bark. 🎄 Love to see the way you make this at Crumbs & Doilies, I may just have to try this instead of my recipe ❤️ Merry Christmas!!!!

My family has been making a buche de Noel every year for as long as I can remember, as a Christmas tradition! This is probably the best type of cake there is out there, I hope everyone enjoys making this!

Just made this after looking high and low for the perfect recipe. It is BOMB! Came out just like shown, and it didn't crack. The cognac in the chantilly absolutely takes it up a notch, so do not skip that part. Miam!!! Merry Christmas everyone.

My boyfriend doesn't like the taste of alcohol (and most of his family doesn't like hard alcohol like a good cognac), so last Christmas I filled mine with a whipped salted caramel buttercream and it was AMAZING. I can never go back, but the cognac Chantilly is very good.

I made this for Boxing Day, did the sponge Xmas eve, rolled it up and left it rolled till boxing day morning and it was perfect. It was devoured with everyone coming back for seconds. This is going to be a favourite. Thank you so much

Made this recently, this was absolutely amazing! Definitely will make it again but two things I would do are 1. Make a little bit more of the cream filling - my log was a little bit flat 2. Serve the cake in room temperature, the ganache taste the best when it just start to melt Thank you so much for the recipe again !

I've made this three Christmas dinners in a row and it is always a crowd pleaser!!❤ This year we had an impromptu early Christmas dinner and the family was so pleased and impressed that I put this roll cake together so wonderfully. Great tip! I've heard of folding the corners of the parchment paper to make it sit in the pan better. But cutting little squares in the corners seem like it will work even better!

Thank you for this video! I have made this cake two years in a row now! This year I ran out of eggs, so I couldn't make the mushrooms. I improvised and placed champagne corks around this years cake.😁And boy was this cake scrumptious! A true crowd pleaser thanks to you!

It's not a Swiss roll. In the UK we have Swiss rolls as well, but they are not yule logs. Yule logs are shaped the same way as a Swiss roll, but are generally only made at Christmas time.

I just did this recipe. Although it gave me a lot of trouble and didn’t come out looking too good (and the cooking time took forever for mine) it ended up tasting great.

I have made a fair amount of yule logs in the past. But I can tell you very honestly, it has never ever turned out as beautiful, light, gorgeous, swirly, ni crackley as this one. I cannot wait to taste it tomorrow and hopefully amaze my guests. Best best recipe 🥰🥰🥰

OK! Canadians and Americans: I combed through their channel and found a video where Jemma made her V. sponge where she actually weighed her eggs. UK free range eggs weigh approx 64-66g in the shell! For Canadians (and I think Americans) this is XL size eggs! Get those or add another large Canada/US egg to this recipe or it will fall apart.

Oh my goodness SALLY!! I literally just made this and took my first bite and it is INCREDIBLE! I had to cut the recipe in half as my dinky oven will only accommodate small baking pans and such, and it came out sooooo perfect! Great recipe - although I had to adjust my oven to 210C as somehow 170C didn’t really work for me. The rest is great! Everyone loves the lightness of the cake. Thanks Sally!

This is a great recipe but what I learned from making it is if your sponge is a thicker you might need to bake it a little longer.

I have been baking for a long time but never made a yule log. I decided this year to make one. Honestly did not know what to fill it with so I happened to stumble upon this video. Cannot wait to try it. I will be making ganache but dark chocolate. Everything is better with the slightly bitter chocolate. I would make those darling merengue mushrooms but my husband would hate them. I think I will just add some cute little decorations.

This is the best Buche de Noel I've ever made! The recipe was so easy and foolproof. My daughter doesn't like whipped cream (??) so I made a whipped chocolate ganache for the filling. Otherwise I followed your recipe exactly. So beautiful and delicious!

Hello 👋 has anyone actually attempted this and it worked ? I followed every step ... in F it is set very low 338 degrees F (not convection/fan) ... 12 mins - looks beautiful- but after 10 mins cooling - the surface was wet ... when cooked I unrolled the tea towel and it was a royal sticky broken mess ... so sad 😞

I tried this out today............. but my one turned out way too airy and i was unable to roll it up it was also way too soft and not firm at all i am not sure where i went wrong but i think i put in too much meringue causing it to become too soft and airy. Anyway it still tasted good i just topped it with a bit of heavy cream along with the chocolate ganache but, i was also unable to cut it so me and my family had to have it with a spoon. But, at the end of the day the recipe was fabulous and i really want to know where i went wrong. If anyone knows it will be be really helpful.🥰👍👍

I made this today! And I made it more stressful then it actually was 😅 but it was tasty! Nice and light, with the chocolatey silky ganache (I used milk chocolate but I think a mix of dark and milk would work better - plus I made less and still had leftover ganache!) and creamy filling 😋, perfect after a heavy dinner for xmas! More details~ I only had a 30x24cm baking tray so I used 4 eggs for the cake and adjusted the ingredients accordingly. I made a mistake straight away though, I mixed what would have been 30g sugar with the yolks and 120g with the whites when it should've been the other way round! So adding cocoa made it really thick, and it didn't mix well with the whites, plus I added more cocoa cause it didn't look dark enough, but after baking it looked fine 😅 after assembling everything looked great, wish I could share photos :)

I remember learning to make this in catering (food tech) for gcse's i loved it, made it again at home but i've not made it in about 10 years. I still have the recipe in my recipe book and this video has now made me think i should give it a try again for the holidays.

I just made this though it aint the season i know, but it turned out amazing. Thank you for the great recipe. The only thing i added is hazelnut praliné in the cream and it turned out really good. No crack in the roll, and the ganache was magical. I even made the little mushroom meringues using a recipe on the channel too. If you wanna try it, definitely do so. Its gonna be a february log no biggie.

The Bûche de Noël cake is a French Christmas tradition that dates back to the 19th century. The cake represents the yule log that families would burn starting on Christmas Eve. Sally you did a fabulous job on your Bûche de Noël! I like adding a splash of Grand Marnier (Orange flavored liqueur) as well as some Orange Zest. (Finely Chopped) into my Whipped Ganache. Whipping Ganache wasn’t exactly a “secret” to me only because, l have been a professional pastry chef for nearly 40 years. I did the math and I estimated l made over 11,000 Yule Log Cakes! (Bûche de Noël)

I know im a weirdo & in the minority but I hate Xmas cake, pudding and mince pies so it's all about the crimbo yule log for me every year and this one looks absolutely yummy 😋 certainly the best looking one I've ever seen!! Made of air too so it shouldn't pile on the pounds!! 😃 Happy to hear you guys are open again 👍 (ps. you look very glam in the video Sally!! 😉) x
