Don’t worry, we Danes don’t voluntarily give up on our holidays 😂 However, we gladly add and incorporate other’s traditions if we like them, after all you can’t have too many holidays or special occasions to celebrate 😁 The Danes used to celebrate winter solstice, and the Vikings would feast and drink for a week, so when the Christians tried to convert the Nordic pagan savages, they had to place a lot of Christian celebrations at the time of already existing traditions or the Vikings would simply reject them. Celebrating took several days and always involved lots of food and drinking, still does 😊 So stop complaining about our lengthy celebrations, it’s been part of our culture for thousands of years, and long long before America was even a country 😂 Glædelig jul 🎄

Hi guys. Lots of funny thoughts on Danish christmas. 🎄Me personally I get narcious when christmas decorations go up in late october. My husband and his siblings one time allmost ended up fysically fighting over what turned out to be 100 tee candles😂 As a kid I was scared shitless whenever uncle John would dress up as Santa.😅 I see a change in the drinking culture? More and more nonalcoholic alternatives are served, How about you? Did you know that the word “jul” reffers to a pagen tradition celebrating the return of light? Makes so much sence. Happy christmas everyone.

Dafuq is he talking about? Æbleflæsk is roast bacon+pork mixed with (homemade) apple sauce that simmers a bit on the same pan. It is delicious. But merry Xmas.

i came here for the same comment, and summer æbleflæsk you dice in real apples and some onions too. to make it a meal in itselff i think he was thinking of Sylte, that is the closest i could imagine his description sounded like

The Julekalender is a must for any english speaking living in Denmark. And I will highly recommend æbleflæsk - delicious, especially if you use bacon instead of plain pork. And the apples should be quite acidic.

This is going to be great, had to comment befor i have seen it all 😂🎉. To pur luck most of the imigrants here take it light, they call us white potatos, and it is fine. Sins the viking age we exchange goods, and married middle eastern women.. but this part of history is not well known. Ryebred is from Tyrkiet, but we took it to another level. I just close my radio when commuting to and from work. Im constantly overwhelmed with xmas songs on the radio that its really annoying sometimes :) So i fully understand Brooks' comment about the 3 month xmas celebrations :)

Ofcause we have a inferriorcomplex - no one have ever heard of Denmark. It`t always Norway and Sweden everone talks about… and maybe Iceland - when you have a lot of landmass you are invisable 😅

What about our traditions with “nisser” ex. Nisser that brings gifts every day in december or on advent(every sunday in dec.)… it’s often a package calender - combined with the “Nissedør”. Or our “klippe klistre” arrangements with our kids institutions or work or friends, arrangements where we get together and make Christmas dekorations (this being on of those times you get æbleskiver and gløgg😉) Finding the almond in the “risalamande” (a kind of rispudding that is a danish intervention 😂), wich grant you a mandelgave(almondgift).

Something very important you missed ….it’s JUL/ YULE …not much to do with Christ. Jul is full of pagan symbolisme and very little Christian. Have a good one ❣️🐐🍺

I would let Santa take credit for stocking stuffers and then take credit for the big girls my self. That way your kids can look forward to Christmas morning and you can open presents Christmas Eve.

The adverts and decorations for Christmas starts early, yes. But most of us despice it... For many businesses it is a goal to sell more and more stuff... Money, Money, Money 🤮....
