The thing about the 24th is that in the olden days, the day changed at sunset, so the 25th began at what is now the sunset of the 24th. In Scandinavia, that's around 4pm-ish. Or earlier. So that's when celebrations began.

Misteltoe is magical. It killed the Norse God Balder. Sacrificing pigs (not goats - this is Denmark after all) is quite practical when you do not have enourgh fodder to feed them until spring.
