I love that you've embraced the dark wood. My home built in 1983 is a contemporary with lots of dark wood and white walls. I still love it today. Many have said paint the woodwork white but I don't think I ever will. I love the warm browns, creams and yes white. I add lots of gold and glitz at Christmas. Old World ornaments and both vintage and new Santas mix beautifully with my contemporary styles. Merry Christmas to your growing family!

Loved everything!! And I love the story about you and your mom decorating. I have no idea what these I’m going for this year because I’ve never decorated with colored lights!! soooo, my mom always thought colored lights were tacky (honestly, so do I) but I remember my dad always wanted to use blue lights... JUST blue! My mom would always say no, and just used clear. Well, one year.. she gave in and I’m telling ya.. everything was blue! The outdoor lights, tree lights.. everything! My dad passed away couple years later, I’m so glad he got his blue Christmas ❤️ he was 46 when he passed and I was 14. I’m 32 now, I have been married for 15 years and my husband has always wanted multi colored lights. I always say no because I think they are tacky. BUT, idk... maybe because I’m 32 .. getting older... they are just freaking lights!! Tomorrow is never promised and I want my husband to have his multi colored lights! Idk how I’m going to decorate around that because it’s so new to me but I can’t wait to see his smile when he sees his lights ☺️ sorry for the long comment!

Hi Sasha... your story sounds so familiar. I have always thought colored lights are tacky too but... common... We CAN DO THIS! Let me think. How can we decorate a classy looking tree and use colored lights??? 🤔 What do you think of using white, clear and silver balls and ornaments? That way, the lights will highlight the balls and not fight against them. It could be pretty... Whatever you do, please send us a photo...IG, FB or just in an email. For years my husband wanted a tree with blue lights and I really struggled with the concept Then my daughter decided that as a gift for her dad, she wanted to make it happen for him. So I bought all the stuff and squirreled it away (blue tree theme...not that popular or easy to make happen), and after he went to bed on Christmas Eve we undid the existing tree and made it over in blue. I can’t say that my daughter or I particularly liked the result, but he was super touched and loved it, and that’s what mattered. Good luck with your colored light tree!

The theme of Christmas is Jesus. Because that's the reason the holiday exists. I don't care about what holiday cup Starbucks makes or anything crazy like that because all holidays are special and valid and worthy of celebration - but mine is about the birth of Jesus Christ. My decoration theme is the same every year - traditional Danish protestant. My grandparents on both sides did it that way, so now I do too. I have lots of family heirloom Christmas items from my great-grandparents, and my grandma made my advent wreath. Now I guess "hygge" is trendy and nisse are everywhere, but it feels like no one understands the cultural significance of the Scandinavian traditions.

You are so fortunate to have your mother's expertise when decorating your home for Christmas. 🌲 I usually decorate my Christmas tree in blue and silver, with ornaments that are blue and white Oriental miniature pieces and collected pieces from 46 years of marriage. But, this year I am switching it up and doing a woodland theme and using shades of green and lots of animals found in the forest. Then on tables and shelves, I am decorating with lots of different Christmas trees. I just want it to be cozy and not so glitzy this year. I wish for you a quick and painless delivery! Absolutely stunning! Our main tree is an eclectic mix of decorations given by friends and family from their travels, chosen by the children over the years and mixed in with lots of silver, gold and glass with garlands of clear and pearly beads.
