It's that time of year again - CHRISTMAS AT THE CHATEAU has begun! Happy Advent!
Here is the ninth video in our daily Advent Calendar series. Each day will bring a different surprise - but you can expect a mixture of exuberant decorations, seasonal florals, delicious food, gift ideas, musical treats and even a little Christmas carpentry...

They are available at €5 per image, or €10 for four colours.
I had hoped to have the papers printed in order to sell them ready-made, but with all of the Covid postal delays that's proved impossible. I had mine printed by Zazzle, and scaled the pattern up online so that I have both regular and large scale versions here for Christmas. You're all welcome to do the same in order to have large rolls made, or to simply print them on your home printers for very small parcels! But please only use them for private (not commercial) use.

Chateau diaries has been such a sanity saver for me over the last several months. I was fired from my job in April when I was 16 weeks pregnant because I wanted to put safety precautions in place for myself, during that time I watched your vlogs to relax. I then introduced them to my husband and we watched them in hospital when I was in labour. We watched them during middle of the night feeds to make them bearable and now we watch them while having breakfast in the morning. The morning cuddles while having breakfast in bed and watching you is my favourite part of the day. We named our little girl Adeline because my husbands grandmother is french and we loved the name, she’s a firecracker like Isabelle. If you read this please say hi to Selmar (my husband is Dutch and we just adore Selmar) and Cat (we just love her sense of humour, please never let her leave). All the love in the world to you and everyone at lelande.

I agree! No eating cute, adorable, sweet, precious, furry, soft, lovable, wonderful and beautiful rabbits ever! When I was 8 years old and was living in Italy we visited Greece. We were visiting a friend of my fathers for dinner. While the lady of the home was cooking the children were playing with the bunny rabbits. Then we ran around the farm and played with other things. When it was time for dinner there was a huge buffet of all kinds of food. I asked what meat that was and they said it was the rabbits that we had played with earlier. I dropped my plate and ran to the bathroom crying in horror. I refused to come out and couldn’t stop crying. Oh the fond memories of Greece. I’m 56 now. Boy do I have so many stories. Much Love ❤️

I LOVE the 12 days of Christmas and no one here in the US seems to know anymore that it’s 12/25-1/5. I insist on leaving my decor up and playing Christmas music, and my coworkers actually try to tell me Christmas is over! It’s my dream to do a full 12 days of feasting one year. I love how you integrate historical traditions and other holidays like ancient pagan traditions. I also love world religion holidays that take place in late fall/winter, like Diwali and Hanukkah and Kwanzzaa, because they all contain related themes of bringing light into darkness and hope of spring (I wonder what winter traditions take place in the Southern Hemisphere in June?).

I totally agree with Stephanie. I always use salted butter, even sweet things. Alot of receipes call for a pinch of salt anyway, and the salt will just enhance the sweetness. If you usually go for unsalted butter, when you cook, just try the salted instead.

I understand Philips rabbit dish. We lived in Flemish Limburg and Philip was born in the Dutch province of Limburg. We made rabbit in the same way as Philips grandparents. You marinated the rabbit pieces in water with vinegar and raw chopped onions and juniper berries. Next morning you dry the pieces of meat with kitchen paper of a fresh kitchen towel. Then you brown the meat. After that you add a bit of the vinegar water, the onions( you sift them out) and the juniper berries. Now you can add red current jelly , a bay leaf, peper and salt or black dried prunes. Stew until the rabbit until tender. That with cooked patatoes, red cabbage or apple sauce is a feast and in our household in the fifties, sixties and seventies was a food for sundays and holidays. Only after the seventies turkey came in the pictures due to the influances from watching US tv shows.

The waffles looked absolutely fabulous. One of our favorite desserts in Chester County, Pennsylvania we enjoy eating waffles and ice cream. We put the ice cream between two waffles and top with confectionary sugar(powder sugar). You can also freeze the waffles and pop them in the toaster to heat them and top with maple syrup. Enjoy.

For my birthday my mother used to make me waffles with a topping of sour cream and strawberries. The tartness of the sour cream and the strawberries (sliced with sugar to make juice) before mixing with the sour cream was wonderful!
