So cool I used to feed my rott chicken just like that. After a $2,250 vet bill. The comment from the vet of "what were you thinking, and the constant?" i told you so" comment from my wife. I stopped doing it. Something about how chicken bones splinter and how the throat & stomach lining in canines are thin. And those bones take longer to digest. That $2,250 made me think twice. I know I said what about animals that live in the wild. The vet said wild animals do not go to a vet. Either way, it looks like they enjoyed their Christmas dinner!!!

iirc it's cooked bones that are dangerous, not raw ones (although raw meat has its own issues, but I digress) so wild animals don't have a problem with splintering afaik

@@phyllishedges4011 oh no I absolutely agree with listening to a veterinarian, I was just responding to @TheBucktowncrazy's point about how their vet said that wild animals don't go to the vet (wild animals don't have the problem of splintering bones when eating raw meat and bones, that's a cooked meat and bones problem I think, so they wouldn't need to go to the vet for that)

I don’t know all the reasons, but I do know that if you fully cook animal bones, they can splinter and aren’t good for animals to swallow. Raw bones are safer. My cat jumped on the counter and swallowed a whole chicken wing flat and I had to get his little butt x-rayed every other day to make sure it wasn’t puncturing anything on the way out and that it was moving along. He was lucky though.

LIghtly cooked/gently cooked is recommended by vets as the best of both worlds for your dogs health as lightly cooked food retains most of the nutrients while killing most of the pathogens (did the same for our dogs when we had property) and it probably tastes better for them. They also digest it better.

Next dog I get, I'm gonna look at feeding them a raw diet. My understanding you gotta start then young to strengthen their digestive track. The benefits are obvious compared to unnatural crap they call "dog" food. Their bodies are made for that. ❤

Yes, it really is amazing the difference it makes in their health! It's great when puppies & kittens can be weaned directly onto raw, but adult/older dogs & cats can be transitioned too. What I've learned is that its best to start the transition with meat only, because kibble fed dogs/cats have weaker stomach acid and can't properly digest bone yet. After a few days you can introduce organ meats, then bone (just be sure to size raw meaty bones correctly and always supervise). ❤
