Phil’s a wonderful human being with an extraordinary talent and love for God. I first saw him play in 1988. Have seen him live probably 30 times since. Never cease to be amazed at his creativity and skills. Much respect for this man.

I was introduced to Phil's music when I got saved in 1979. His songs from that time always help to bring me back to my first love for the Lord. Let Everything Else Go and What a Day are two of my landing places. Thanks Phil.

Phil Keaggy has indeed created his own style and when i hear him playing the music reminds me of the creativity God has through man and also his playing reminds me of Gods creation, the great outdoors which i love. Music often takes you to another realm but Keaggys style not only takes me to another realm but a place the Holy Spirit himself brings me to in my mind and heart. Its really hard to describe in words actually.

Mr. Keaggy, you are such a god in playing the guitar... for me, the best player on earth. too bad you believe in sth that doesn't exist... still I admire your skills. believe what you like, as long as you are playing as you do. thumbs up.

I always see the "who's the grestest guitarist?"comments on Phil's videos. First of all,it's not a contest. Hendrix was great and was the best at bring himself. He left a great legacy. You could say the same for Phil, though the public doesn't generally know his songs or play them. One reason is that Hendrix stuff is mostly approachable from a technical standpoint. I've played lead guitar for numerous bands and have played Hendrix songs many times. Most are not hard to play, as far as the basic outline pf the song. What IS hard is SOUNDING like Hendrix! He had a very smooth and subtle style that was deceiving. He played complex phrases and made them sound simple. Keaggy's stuff is mostly complex and there are almost always parts that sound easy and are difficult. You can get play them in a simplified way, but it won't sound right to those who know his stuff. Some of Phil's licks are next to impossible for mere mortals. Phil is very eclectic and can play almost any style, though I never heard him play bluegrass-style and he doesn't do much country. I never heard him play Albert Lee type chicken-pickin'! So, he IS limited! But he can play some classical guitar that will make you cry! Check out the intro on Paul Clark's "Listen Closely" on the Paul Clark "Come Into His Presence" album. I've been waiting 40 years for Phil to record that on something else! Some of Phil's best stuff is on other peoples' albums. "Good To Be Home" (-also Paul Clark) shows Keaggy at his early best! Those who think Clapton is over-rated don't understand that in those days, EC came out and blew us away with his mastery of pentatonic riffs.Few could play those songs like that in those days. He deserves a lot of credit and is a great stylist. He introduced a bunch of people used to Franky Valee, simple fifties-style love songs and folk music to the blues. He played some great stuff for the Beatles, also.

A high school home-room buddy of mine (Jazz drummer Paul Sarni) clued me into Phil back in 1979 and told me the guy was a guitar god ... I picked up Wind and The Wheat shortly after that and have been humbled and blown away ever since. I hope and pray I can hear him live someday. What an amazing gift - supernatural.

Phil is Great. does not compare to Hendrix. (yes I know Hendrix said Keaggy was better than himself. Jimi was being modest) all you Keaggy fans say the SAME snobby speech. "his early on stage sampling was amazing" and don't forget "whith Hendrix I just do see it" I think most of you couldn't relate to Hendrix. he was rockin whith the people and for the people. totally unpretentious. God Bless :)
@regalphotography96058 жыл бұрын
Haven't we seen this exact comment for other videos? Come on Bass Joker - mix it up a little. As for the comparisons Hendrix could do ONE style, albeit very well. Keaggy can do it ALL and do it as well, if not better than anyone. That's what people are talking about.
@bassjoker42098 жыл бұрын
well I can dig it but the only reason Hendrix did one style is because he didn't live long enough to evolve. if he had lived he would have for sure been able to do some different stuff which he was at the end. I went to catholic school and had to deal with jealous white guys who tried to deny Hendrix his Genius. one teacher in particular. then later over the years I ran into white guys who say almost the same speech word for word about Keggy and Hendrix.. Keggy is ok, he just gets credit for the first guy to sample his own music live and play along. THATS ALL. God Bless
@regalphotography96058 жыл бұрын
I hear you, but in all fairness Keaggy was versatile at the same age Hendrix was when he passed. I do not deny Hendrix place in music history and, as a musician, am thankful for it. (For the record, I get mostly irritated with the Clapton comparisons.) Let's just accept the greatness of both and enjoy the ride.
@bassjoker42098 жыл бұрын
its about personal choice. I look beyond to see why people say what they say. yes Clapton is a bit overrated. but I think if Hendrix had lived he would of evolved faster and helped everybody else evolve faster. Keggy is still around and he still isn't where Hendrix was when he died. case closed. PEACE !
