The thick wrap also helps to keep the tamales warm ü If you love suman and its variety as we do, pretty sure you'll enjoy the Suman Festival in Aurora Province on the 2nd week of Feb (next year!) Maligayang Pasko / Merry Christmas / Boldog Karácsonyt! Hope you had a good one!

You can also try going to Orchids Garden, Lakeshore or Capitol for Christmas destinations in Pampanga. If you're around Angeles City you can try the traditional tsokolate batirol drink with bibingka and puto bumbong in front of Holy Rosary Parish Church. They only sell these food during Christmas season.

@Rodney Lavitoria Merry Xmas & HNY 2023, can you describe Filipino Tamalis? Is it a suman variation? Susie, did you try the local way of eating your leftover suman purchase? with sugar & powdered milk as the local man suggested? I wonder if he meant condensed milk...
@rodneylavitoria4822 жыл бұрын
Tamalis is not a Suman though it also made from rice. Its a little bit salty with egg, pieces of chicken a bit of shrimp and some seasoning to taste. We in Pampanga and tarkac province we love to eat it with bread like pandesal or monay bun. Some has a little toppings of peanut too..

Modern giant parols, I think, are computer-programmed. But the original old versions (before computers) are really impressive. They were just controlled by a rotating drum that connected different wires at different times. Also giant parols used to be made in different shapes. Before the "dancing" electric lights were added.
@SusieinthePhilippines2 жыл бұрын
According to the events website it's still done the traditional way on the competition! They are using metal vires tho instead of traditional materials but it's so cool that it's controlled by the team behind the scenes!
@AngryKittens2 жыл бұрын
@@SusieinthePhilippines Nice! I guess only the commercial ones are digital. The metal wires are traditional. I think the first electric giant parols were invented just before World War 2. It's only during the Spanish era when they were actually lit by candles.

There are more or less 175 dialects spoken in the philippines but the sad part of it is that some of these dialects are extinct already
@JhanSnow2 жыл бұрын
They are not dialects, they are languages distinct from one another.

I disagree and don't really care about fitting into standard, shallow ideas of what an "ideal" couple must look like. Luckily we don't receive judgmental comments as a couple except once I a while like this one.

@wintersojourn93562 жыл бұрын
@Angry Kittens Hello AK! Thanks for relating a bit of the history of parol mechanics in your other reply in this comment section. Sounds kinda like a music box “rolling drum”. I’ve only seen the child part of this vlog once (so far😊), but since this topic arose I will chime in that I was quite struck by the confidence & innocence of the child, accepting the food. Seems like in my part of 🌎, children are hyper wary with strangers, as has sadly been our policy as well. There are obviously important reasons for it, while still trying to teach courtesy to our children. But I sorely miss the times you could happily accept “candy from a stranger”. Bad things happened always, but guess I was a lucky kid. One more observation, I recall Jonathan is very generous as he seems to always buy snacks for kids in your vlogs. I’ve heard him tell at least one street vendor, “give this to the children”, & the children weren’t even that near to he & Susie. That was heartwarming. But I understand your concern, AK.
@AngryKittens2 жыл бұрын
@@wintersojourn9356 Yes, exactly like a music box drum. Except it connects wires. Imagine using that to program lights! As for the kid, I guess I didn't see the full interaction. Heh. I thought he was begging. I was just worried he was one of those kids who just basically annoys you until you give them something. Because that happens a lot nowadays, as more and more tourists come into the Philippines. I am strongly against giving those "pretend-beggars" anything. Because it teaches them the wrong thing. As one of those kids myself a looong time ago, I know that a lot of them are just doing it because they see others do it. They grow up thinking that if they just pester someone enough or look pitiful enough, they can get free stuff. Especially from foreigners who don't quite realize what's going on. They don't do it because they're hungry, pretty much all of them have a regular home and family. It's just an early lesson in scamming. And worse, the money you give them end up being used for worse things, like gambing. The real street kids who need help are few and far in between, because it's quite literally illegal. They're remanded to social services when caught.
