Excellent work with helpful explanations results always in positive feedbacks. But it's a great pity that you haven't enough time to publish more of these tutorials on KZbin ;) This "Silent Night" is one of the most impressive winter landscapes in the last two years. Awesome! And thank you.

I've been painting with acrylics for about 3 years and tried "Silent Night". I am 75 years old and find this a relaxing hobby. I love your lessons and find them easy to follow on KZbin. My family is overwhelmed with how well my painting came out. Thank you for your time and efforts.

Well Walter, I too am 75. I never had time to paint. I admired paintings and had a dream that someday, I too would be able to paint. It is because of so many great artists who are willing to share their talents with us. I look at the paintings I have done and cannot believe I painted them. My acceptance of my talent is slow coming. MAZ YOU ARE THE BEST. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Was my first in 20 yrs and Marion makes it so easy just found the one from 2016 adding the lights on the tree. I have to paint a new one because I gave the painting to my then sick brother in law in a nursing home. I thought I did a good job painting it and was very proud of it. Seems I wasn't alone as it was stolen from his room. Someone actually took it so am going to paint another one and love the lights. Thank you Marion you are such a beautiful artist and teacher.

Hi Lillian good to hear from you - you can show any of the tutorials you have done from me - but as all artist vary in their approach it is always best to ask. It is good manners to put "in the style ....the artist concerned" or "after.....the artist name concerned" - I dont object to you displaying, selling etc any of the artwork you have done with me - good luck

Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I am a blind artist and love how when you teach you actually describe what you were doing and what colors you were using. I can't watch the time lapse videos because they are completely inaccessible. I enjoy an artist who actually teaches. Your paintings are lovely.

Hi Joyce, if you are just doing one painting add about a teaspoon of oil to about a teaspoon of white paint, and mix together, you are looking for the consistency of cream. Hope that helps Maz x

I just got done this evening following your tutorial! I cant believe it..my painting actually looks pretty!! Thanks for taking the time to go thru this step by step. The only thing I would ask is if you do more it would be helpful to get a straight on view o f your painting as you do it. Often the view from the side was a little hard to see and I need all the help I can get! But still very very beautiful..your a real talent. Thank you and God Bless

An absolutely AMAZING tutorial! You are so patient and thorough with your instructions and techniques. I have never worked with oils before, but recently received a gift set. I was looking for some beginner project to try, and initially thought this one was WAY out of my league! After watching your tutorial through and through at least 6 times, I mustered up the courage to give it a go. Couldn't believe the final results! When my husband came home, he asked where I had bought the painting! I will be attempting more of your beautiful pieces in the future. I was looking all over KZbin for an autumn tutorial near as good as yours and have thus far been disappointed! Thank you so much for your generosity in time and spirit in sharing your art with the rest of us!

I could have sworn I left a note on this video but it's not showing here. I adored this whole painting, due to the coloring and the theme being right up my street. I loved it particularly at the end, when you dotted the stars and you looked so enchanted that you had made them shine and sparkle so brightly. THIS made my day. I am posting on my FB wall as I will go back to it probably again and again and when my paints arrive I shall try it too. Just love this. I wish you would also paint the ocean. I would love to see how you do a tropical ocean...even though I know you are in the North of the UK judging by your accent. I come from Berkshire but live in the US now. Anyhow Maz, you must do more real time beautiful landscapes...and more animals like leopards. I'd love to follow what you do xx Many heart felt thanks.

This class is terrific. Thank you so much. I am new to oils and very intimidated by them. Although I am using WMO's because I get terrible headaches with regular ones.I have had trouble finding someone who tells us the little details like if the paint doesn't transfer onto trees we need moore oil to thin it! I didn't know this. Acrylics are so different, and I am a watercolorist!!!
@MarlenusofAR10 жыл бұрын
if you are working in oils, the golden rule is that if you have a thicker paint already on the canvas, a paint will stick to it if you thin it first. thinner paints stick to heavier paints. if you thin a 2nd paint just a little, you can thin a 3rd paint a little more to stick to the 2nd one...etc. hope that helps...
@sharoncullen409210 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I appreciate the info.
@Aztec0310 жыл бұрын
MarlenusofAR But... that isn't true... according to my art instructor. He says you do it the opposite, the thick paint over the thin. He says it's cuz the thin paint will dry first, and if it's over the thicker stuff, it'll pull it as it dries and shrinks... causing a crack. Even this page says so: www.winsornewton.com/uk/discover/tips-and-techniques/oil-colour/understanding-oil-painting-rules I'm only pointing this out because I lost my first few oils to cracking before I took a class. Paintings I really liked too!
@MarlenusofAR10 жыл бұрын
Sharon Cullen Ok, let me clarify. Working in oils, not acrylics, in the wet on wet technique you start by painting things in the background, then move forward. As you move forward, you are putting wet paint on wet paint. But, many times, you dont want that paint to blend in, you just want it to stick to the thicker paint. So, you thin the 2nd layer of paint by adding magic white, linseed oil, paint thinner or other mediums. Example. You paint in the dark of a tree, then thin the green and put the leaves on, then thin highlight to the leaves and put that over the green. IF YOU TRY to put a heavier highlight to the green, then its simply not going to stick to the paint. Remember, this is wet on wet, not something that has already dried. Thinner paint sticks to heavier paint. Wet on wet allows for the smooth blending of colors and allows a person to paint in one sitting, and for me, an average of one hr. That is not to say that every paint has to be blended in, some are simply put on top of others for their own distinct purpose. But, you can combine them in many different ways. Lay down a blue for the sky, then a white for the clouds and blend in the reds and grays. You get the idea. By the way, I have a painting I painted 40 years ago and it has NO signs of aging or cracking. That's because I finished it with a coating of finishier and it looks as good as the day I painted it...:)
