QBG I think the problem SNL has is that there are too many other avenues for talent today. With KZbin and social media in general, if you're funny, you don't really need SNL to get your big break. This makes it more difficult for them to find new talent. Think about it, with the exception of Jay Pharaoh I'm not mistaken, their current and most recent crop came from traditional places like stand-up(Michael Che), improve troupes(Kate McKinnon) and previous sketch comedy shows(Kel Mitchell).

Am I the only one here that doesn't understand why some people are complaining in the comments here about how all of Colleen Rafferty's skits are 'similar'? Or 'rehashes'? Everyone, come on, that's what makes it funny! It's the running gag with this particular Kate McKinnon character. The fact that she's always the 1 out of 3 people getting the 'short end of the stick' in a 'miraculous encounter' but still just owning it. It's what makes the character memorable and it's what SNL has been doing with recurring characters since the show's inception in the 70's. Put it like this. It would be like having Stefon (Bill Hader) do anything but bizarre club promotions/analyses on a Weekend Update sketch or Mindy Elise Grayson (Kristen Wiig) not on "Secret Word" messing up the chances of the contestant or Church Lady (Dana Carvey) not acting as a talk show host in a church with unlikely guests. To myself and many others, this is what makes SNL the comedic powerhouse that it is and why it has been enjoyed by viewers all this time. So, the next time you accuse the writers that they are being 'lazy' for 'rehashing', just remember that just because it's something we've seen prior doesn't mean that it's a bad thing. Also, just saying... Shart is hilariously terrifying! Haha. XD
