Kate McKinnon has had scores of womens’ shoulders upon which to build her craft, which Gilda Radner did not. Gilda was stand-out for her generation. She was absolutely epic for her time as Kate is today. Taking this to its logical end, 30 years from now there will be another stand-out female comic who will not diminish Kate, in the same way that Kate does not diminish the accomplishments of Gilda, because you cannot take what was considered hilarious for one generation and compare it equally to another. Gilda was just as hilarious and even more ground-breaking in getting female comic skits onto the SNL stage moreover providing comics like Kate a greater chance at success.
